[[Just a quick note- I'm hoping that nobody find this offensive in anyway. Bernie is a Priest, so he believes in a God. Just a warning. xD]]
The city roared in his ears, an annoyance as the man knelt on the stone floor by the foot of his bed to do his morning prayers. A rosary hung from his hands as he clasped them tightly, starting the prayer he said every morning-
"What a beautiful vocation we have, we must keep the salt of the earth..." And, as always, with every morning prayer he reflected on the horror of humankind, how amazing that God still loved men, and his place in this world to defend them from the extra evil wandering among them. The naive masses. He mumbled the prayer, only becoming coherent again for the last two lines:
"Accept me in Thy plan divine, as victim for Thy harvesting." He crossed himself, standing and grabbing the bible waiting for him on the bed. Going to the small wooden door he placed the bible in a satchel containing all that would be needed for work today and left the room. He made his way down the wooden stairs of his old church, now being cared for by another Priest, a young man named Mallory or some such. Bernardo had little time for such things, and the young man was still so naive as well.
"Good morning, Father Bachman." The younger priest nodded his head as her walked by. Bernardo grunted at the young man as he walked by and out of the church. The din outside was much worse than in his room, and he pulled on his collar a bit as he walked down the street. He stood out in his long, black priests robes and white collar- some people laughed and others tipped their hats... he in turn barely batted an eye at them as he made his way to the office.
As Bernardo made his way into the lobby he saw the doors leading to the actual offices swing close.
"Hello, Father Bachman." He nodded to the elderly woman behind the desk, opening his robe and showing her the patch.
"Miss Eliza just came in as well." He grunted in response and made his way back into the office, a frown set on his face. On to work, then.

Eliza glanced down the hallways of the offices. The front section sat many rows of desks but further back she could see a maze of halls and doorways that lead to private rooms and other offices. Only a few people sat at the front desks. The room seemed calm and uneventful. She rocked back on her heels, biting her lips.
"What a boring day to come back." she muttered.
The sound of foot steps behind her made her look around, and suddenly the quiet room filled with loud shrieks.
"Mr. Bachman!" she cried excitedly. She dashed for the man, who raised an eyebrow at her sudden loud greeting.
"Mr. Bachman! Mr. Backman!" she bounced. "I'm back early! Did you miss me?! Huh? Did you?!
Did you
?!"

Bernard looked down at her, his dull eyes showing nothing. A small frown tugged at the edges of his lips. He
had
been looking forward to a nice quiet day in the office, but he had also been expecting Eliza to be gone. Toying with the idea of saying something along the lines of 'not in the slightest', he settled for an low grunt and a simple-
"I thought you weren't going to be back for at least a few more days."
She was always so happy. It did not upset him, any, it was more of a minor annoyance. What troubled him more was how cheerful the young woman could be in the face of such work.
Youths these days, he thought, walking around her and heading towards his desk.

She began to follow him. "Tell me how you've been these past few weeks." she asked her silent companion. "I had a little adventure myself, and I'm sure you want to hear all about it. And get this: I've found the most interesting book on Hindu spirits and myths. I'd like to visit the Middle East. Sounds exotic. Have you ever been out of the country before? I haven't, but you seem like you would have. You just do. Oh, and don't get me started on this strange fellow I met on the train the other day."
There was a sudden pause as she waited for a response.

((Gotta tell ya, DBB... Your character sounds a lot like me irl, appearance and everything... kinda creep-tastic
But with an rp that's supernatural, I expect no less! Let's have some fun!))
"Goodness, is that you, Ellie?" Poppy poked her head through a nearby doorway. Upon seeing her friend, her face broke into a wide grin.
"I wasn't expecting you back so soon!" She tucked the book she had been reading back into her satchel.
"Oh! Good morning, Father." She said, suddenly quiet. Though she had been working with the organization for two years now, he still intimidated her slightly.
Poppy's skills were not called upon that often. She had been working hard to gain mastery over her ability to serve as a medium, and had gained much ground since she first began working, but she was still not as strong as the Coalition would have liked. But whenever she was requested, she always showed.

Almost just as suddenly as Poppy appeared, Eliza's attention turned almost completely away from Father onto the new arrival.
"Poppy! Darling!" she squealed. She drew the girl into a hug. "Look at you. You look helpless without me. Then I suppose you missed me, am I right?"
Poppy gave her a look. "I'm kidding," Eliza grinned. "It was a joke. You don't look helpless. I swear." She turned back to Bachman. "Just had to say hello to Father Grumpy. But he's not very talkative today."

'Father...Grumpy?'
He thought, the frown deepening slightly. He had been out of the country, but only to Italy. He had gone and spent five years there when he was younger; it was mostly a learning experience. He rarely left Vatican City's wall.
"Once. A long time ago, Miss Giles." He said in a gruff voice.
When Poppy appeared his frown almost fell off his face. He had always been a bit wary of her- he didn't trust anyone who had any sort of supernatural taint on them. Even if she appeared meek, he still could almost feel the tingle of something wrong. When she had first joined the Coalition he had asked to do an exorcism- but his offer had been turned down. He nodded at the young woman.
"Hello, Miss Flanagan."

Among all the men and women in the Coalition, Eliza was definitely Poppy's favorite. She felt far more comfortable around the other girl than anyone else.
"I thought you weren't going to be back in town for a few more days!" She said, echoing Bachman. "This is definitely a pleasant surprise."
She was truly happy to see her friend, and therefore more at ease. Still... There was the matter of the Father.
She knew he did not care for her, and it hurt knowing that there was nothing she could do to change it. It wasn't her fault that she was cursed. Still, her Southern upbringing had always taught her to be polite, even when she didn't want to be.
"What brings you here today, Father?" She asked quietly.

"Paperwork." He said bluntly, taking out a folder from his satchel as if to prove it. That, and he had been asked if he could bless a new batch of Holy Water. They seemed to be going through at least three gallons a week now days, he was almost thinking of trying to contact the Vatican and see if they would send a larger shipment. For now, though, he would do as asked.
"What about you, Miss Flanagan?" Bernardo asked more out of being polite than being interested.

"Me?" Her voice came out strained. She cleared her throat.
"Oh, uh, well... My... services... were requested." She said, fixing on a point over the priest's shoulder. "I still don't know the specifics."
Poppy was not yet a strong enough medium to investigate on her own. She was often accompanied by a few others, but she didn't even know if she had any help at all this time.

(That's ok. I'm giving a small post anyways.)
Eliza rocked back on her heels, fidgeting her fingers behind her back.
"Well, this is all just dandy." she cut in. "I can see everyone hasn't changed a bit since I left."
There was a moment of silence and Eliza saw Father Bachman start to turn away but he was stopped by a woman behind him.
"Mr. Grey wants to see you." she said, looking somewhat fidgety herself. "He said there's a new case."
Eliza leaned sideways to get a better look at the woman. "Who does he need?"
"He's requesting all of you to see him in the meeting room." the woman replied, and left in a hurry.
The three exchanged silent glances and headed up the stairs.

Bernardo was bothered that we would not have a chance to do his work for the day, but when Mr. Grey wanted to see you- you really had no choice. Following the two young women up the stairs to his office, Bernardo instead too the chance to flip through the folder he was going to file. Triple checking his work was a habit, as he scanned the neatly written pages. He did things like this to keep himself busy- he found it almost necessary to keep himself distracted.
Even though...Bernardo secretly wondered to himself why the three of them had been asked to go to the office; it wouldn't be a case, would it? Usually Bernardo was sent with one of the older Mediums, one that had a lot more experience under their belt... and he, himself, had only been on exorcisms and house cleansing. Frowning up at the two young women he wondered if he was going to be asked to work with them- and if so, how he was going to cope with it.
'God has a plan for all things.'
, a small voice echoed in the back of his head. It did nothing to ease his thoughts or worry. All he could think about was having to babysit these two- even if Eliza had been here a year more than him and Flanagan had always been with medium groups only. He let out a small sigh of discontent and put his paper work back into his satchel... and once again he remembered how he had been looking forward to a quiet day at the office.

Poppy felt more or less the same about working with Bachman. As she walked up the stairs, halfway listening to Eliza's recounting of her new desire to travel to the middle east, she silently considered praying she would not have to work with the intimidating priest.
Then again...
She thought to no one in particular,
Bachman's God probably won't listen to someone cursed like me. He never has before, anyway.
In any rate, at least she'd have Ellie to keep her company. Being around her always made her feel better. Ellie often spoke up when Poppy was afraid to. She was always grateful for that.
And maybe, if she proved herself to be helpful on this assignment, Bachman wouldn't be so cold to her in the future.

The room they had been called to was on the second floor. It was narrow but stretched far back and had brass chandeliers hanging on tall ceilings. A long, polished table sat at the center of the room and Eliza quickly found a seat along with the others.
Robert Grey sat at the far end, looking seriously at a pile of papers. He was a tall, skinny man, well-dressed and clean shaved, although his grey hair was starting to bald.
"I hope I haven't interrupted any work you three may have been doing." he said, but instead of addressing the others he stared right at Bernardo. "Well, anyways, I have a bit of a serious little case that's come to my attention. One I feel you three should be the most capable to take on."
Eliza rested her chin on her hands. "Now there's the excitement I've been waiting for." she chuckled. "And here I thought our little operation was getting lazy."
Mr. Grey ignored her, flipping back through the papers in his hands. "Six dead." he said, his tone cold. "All under violent but unusual circumstances." He set the papers down and pinched the bridge of his nose. "All victims are members of a gang here in the city: The Falcons. Th police can only assume that their rival gang is the culprits, however, no evidence pointing to them has surfaced."
"Sounds like a job for the police, then." Eliza interrupted.
"It sounds like it until you see this." He tossed a small photo down the table at them, and Poppy grabbed it. Eliza saw her and Bernardo frown.
"That's a rune, carved into one of the victim's skin." Mr Grey said, gravely. "All victims had that. I'm afraid someone opposing the gang has come across demonic power. That is why this falls under our problem."
