"If you've met my nephew, you should already be familiar with how curt and short he can be." Reldegan growled and jabbed a thumb in his chest, "Got that from me he did, but it means I have no time for flattery and flowery buffoonery since that boy can practically disappear into thin air if he gets bored of a conversation."

The girl was right though, he had spoken a little too loud, but instead of being embarrassed and lowering his voice, he stood up straight and glared at everyone in the room with a flat unfriendly look that mirrored Aldyne's from brow to chin except for a few extra wrinkles.  Everyone in the tavern quickly looked away, pretending not to be paying any attention. The tavern wench gave a yelp when she saw the glare and scurried towards the tavern keeper.

When he was sure that no one will bother him he stretched his neck and returned to Emmeline with an unfriendly look. He did speak in a lower voice though.

"Child, I can see that you have had some formal upbringing before you became some lady adventurer, but I have no time for this ridiculous posturing." He drew closer to her and sniffed her.

"What is your relation to Aldyne, girl? He has even touched your bare skin." He sniffed again, this time fixing his glare to her hips, "I can even smell his scent near your.... lower regions" he amended before he said a vulgar word. Reldegan was not one for formalities but he knows how to be polite.

The tavern wench however gasped audibly and blushed a deep red. There were even a few uncomfortable coughs around the room.

Reldegan ignored them and continued, "Did you have sex with Aldyne, girl? Has he planted his seed within you?" Reldegan continued his quarries with all seriousness, each question more direct and graphic than the last. The tavern wench had finally fled to behind the counter with hands pushed on her reddened cheeks, she still peeked out from behind the tavern keeper every once in awhile when curiosity finally overcame her. Some of the male patrons were also blushing but all of them were keeping an ear open for Emmeline's answer.

"While you make your point so profusely, spouting platitudes like you are actually wise and important sir, I am still obliged to refuse answering your question," Emmeline replied calmly, not backing down from this fight. "Aldyne is a grown man and I am a grown woman, so far we are equals - what does it matter whether we had relations or not? My business is my own and I can choose whether or not to answer your inquires, course and vulgar as they are."

Pushing away the plate of food and feeling sicked to her stomach, Emmeline pause for a moment to gather her thoughts, the slowly stood, hand still on the hilt of her knife lest Reldegan tried to do something. As she was unsure of his intentions still, she had no idea as to what he would do. "But, if you are so eager to know, I have been close to your nephew though not in the way you would like to believe. I will not spout my public affairs in front of such an audience and if one wishes to know the truth about me, one has simply to ask, politely.

"If you had made your queries in a more gentlemanlike manner, then maybe I should have been tempted to gift you with the truth. However, from the moment you have started talking to me, your arrogance, your complete lack of manner and class and your low opinion of both Aldyne and I have forced me to refuse to answer. I bid you good morning, sir."

Mock bowing at the Grand Duke, the young bounty hunter turned and strode from the room, silently fuming. How dare he? Surely, it was none of his business to make such accusations and tarnish her name in front of the whole inn. Never had she been so insulted in her entire life and she had heard some extremely vulgar phrases directed at her from bounty's.

Emmeline stopped at the head of the stairs, breathing out a sigh, then leaned against the wall for support. Arguing was ever tiresome and so too had been her quick pace from the dining room to the rooms. She lifted her shirt to ascertain that there had been no more damage to her recently stitched hip and sighed in relief when the bandage showed no blood through it. Aldyne would have been most displeased.

(I do like! Nasty Reldegan is nasty =P)

ALDYNE:

"So how are the two of them getting along?"

Two hooded figures hiding in the shadows outside the tavern busy themselves with listening to the exchange between Emmeline and Reldegan.

"Terribly... Lord Reldegan's... directness has annoyed the girl and..." The two of them suddenly realize that there was a third party with them, they drew their weapons and pointed it towards the sound of the voice. To their dismay, they found themselves pointing at nothing.

"At ease, boys!" The voice said again now to the side. The two jerk their head towards the sound and sees Aldyne leaning on the wall eating a freshly baked loaf of bread. The two of them were pretty young, Aldyne thought, probably not more than twenty. As Imperial Scouts go, they carried their weapons with great proficiency, but before them stands the greatest of their time. The two quickly sheathed their weapons and saluted Aldyne.

"I said again. At ease." Aldyne said almost lazily as he continues to eat his breakfast. The two drop their hand but still stood at attention.

"Report."

"Sir, Lord Reldegan has failed in diplomacy with a girl suspected to have... er, an intimate moment with you. His bluntness was his downfall."

Aldyne choked back a grin and a laugh. He imagined his uncle bombarding Emmeline with crude questions and her reactions. It must have been quite a sight. He takes a glance into the window and sees Emmeline leaving the scene in a fit and his uncle left alone at the table in one as well.

"I better go do some damage control." The gazed at the two young scouts who eyed Aldyne nervously. "Even if the two of you are in an alleyway, you should still keep out of sight or at least disguise as a beggar... Do not repeat this mistake again."

The two nodded their answers enthusiastically. "Oh... and you did not see me." Aldyne said as he jumped up onto the roof.

"Not at all, sir!"

"Did not see you at all, sir!" the two said before they seem to vanish into thin air, hiding among the debris and the shadows.

Aldyne stood by the stairway waiting for Emmeline. He climbed over the railing to see if she was there, and notices her walking up the stairs. He continued his climb down to meet her.

"So, how was my uncle?" Aldyne said and hands her a loaf of bread. It did not seem to bother Aldyne very much that he seemed to have appeared out of nowhere or that he is talking to Emmeline while hanging upside down from the stairwell ceiling.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

RELDEGAN:

Reldegan took a moment to calm himself down. Such disrespect from a little girl. Does she not understand that these kind of question are best asked straightforward?

Reldegan sat at the table grumbling. He had to mobilise the entire faction to find Aldyne and even finding him was by pure luck. Some disgruntled merchants were saying they were accosted by a large scarred and intimidating man in a tattered cloak that fit the description of Aldyne's cloak. The information had reached a passing scout's ear who was returning from an expedition from across the seas.

Reldegan drummed his fingers on the table as the tavern finally returned to its usual bustle. He needs to quickly get Aldyne back for more reasons than one. He needs to bring Aldyne back to calm down the King. Although they are now in a state of peace, the Kingdom and its people needs a heroic figure to look up to. And Aldyne was more experienced about foreign policies than the Foreign Minister since he actually has been to those kingdoms and countries. Aldyne is also the heir to the Grand Duchy of Lancaster, he sure as hell was not going to give it to his sons who would probably spend their days wasting away the wealth both Reldegan and Aldyne has attained through the years.

But to officially be considered an heir, he needs to have a wife. To a noble if possible but that is not a necessity. He was somewhat against having an adventurer as a niece but when it comes to his nephew he cannot be picky. If she did in fact sleep with Aldyne, it could finally solve a problem that has prevented Reldegan's retirement for a long time.

Reldegan sighed. Of course that was not all of it, Aldyne was the son Reldegan never had. And to finally see him alive after two years, he nearly broke down in tears. But Aldyne is now so terribaly scarred, both in body and mind, and he looks so tired. He wants to also put him out of harms way. He would not abide to it and let himself be kept behind thick wall of stone but Reldegan still has to try. He was not going to lose Aldyne again. However, it seems as if Aldyne really needed this trip, away from all the fame and glory of his name, away from his duties and peoples who would recognize him.

Reldegan's waved for the tavern wench to bring him some food and drinks. He must really talk to Aldyne when he finally comes down.

Emmeline, now a little used to Aldyne's strange idiosyncrasies, registered only a little shock at his sudden appearance and position, but accepted the bread gratefully. "Thank you. Charming as always," she replied dryly to his inquiry. "He would have it that we were making the beast with two backs last night. I do not believe he realised who it was he was actually talking to."

She smiled in something that could have been described as half a grimace, half a smirk, and leaned against the railing of the stairwell, eyes on Aldyne. "I thought it wise not to say anything until I spoke to you about it. If saying you and I did make love last night will help you, then I will be glad to do it. I have to repay your constant kindness to me somehow," Emmeline explained, her cheeks flushed as she thought of the nature of her words.

Truthfully, she had never lain with a man before and had never felt the inclination to, yet here she was now, as much as admitting that she would not only have relations with this man, but be unashamed of it too. "Though your uncle irks me to no end, I can see that he truly cares for you. I did not wish to offend him, but I fear my temper overcame my reason."

(Sorry, short post, I've really got nowhere to go until they continue the conversation :P)

Aldyne, still upside down, gave Emmeline a tired look, he raises a scarred hand and touches Emmeline on her cheek  "Now why in the world would you want to be associated to a disfigured monster in that way. I am sure you can do much better than that."

He stroked her cheek only once before he turned around and climbed back up the ceiling and changed the subject.

"I know he means well, but that old bat's mouth always gets him in trouble. What's worst is that he's got the skills to back him up. He is the second strongest combatant in our division, even at his age. It also does not help that he always has a platoon of imperial scouts guarding him wherever he goes. I have already saw 30 of them and met 12 of them so you should be careful."

"Yes mother," Emmeline responded with an amused smile, looking down at the bread Aldyne had bought for her, her mind working at a rapid pace as she found was usual after nearly anything Aldyne said to her. She knew that he was trying to protect her from his uncle by warning her of the scouts and of that she was fine, but in regards to his appearance she felt that she was old enough to judge who she wanted to be associated with and why. She could still feel her cheek tingle from the subtle touch of his hand earlier, still see the defeat in his eyes as he condemned himself to being a monster. To Emmeline, it just didn't seem fair at all.

"Why should I care if I am associated with you in that way, Dyne? My choices are my own. When I look at you," as she said so, she raised her eyes to lock on his surely. "I see a man, not a monster. Sometimes you cannot believe everything the mirror tells you." That said, she nodded at him carefully and bounded up to the top of the staircase, then turned to him once more.

"And as far as I am concerned, friendship should not be based on appearances. That is why in the world I would wish to be associated with you."

Aldyne looked into her eyes with a smile, such fire this one has he thought to himself and in a twist and a flip, he flies over Emmeline's head and lands on the floor behind her without so much as a sound.

"My scars do not bother me as much as you think, Emmeline. They are but merely another marks to me, it is the stories behind them that beholds my monstrosity" was all he said and he gave a quite chuckle as he walked on back towards the window at the end of the corridor. " Besides, I'm more worried for you about the 'other' form of association which is probably the talk of the tavern right now."

Aldyne wolfed down the last loaf of bread. "But enough about me, Emmeline. What are your plans now to visit your father?"

(Maybe you would like to create another character?)

Emmeline sighed, following Aldyne as he walked. "I have plans to visit him as soon as possible. But as you know, to do so I must travel over the mountain pass to do so. I will need many supplies and therefore a horse. My monetary situation being what it is at the moment will not support the needs of such a journey at present." She brushed the stray lock of her hair that always managed to escape from any hairstyle she had back behind her ear, biting her lip as she thought.

"What I need is some jobs, though by my calculation the amount of gold and silver needed for such a venture would either take at least three very large bounty's or a years worth of small fish. Either way, I will not be travelling to see my father any time soon," Emmeline explained with regret, wrapping her arms about herself. She had always tried to shut out thoughts of her family and thoughts of home, but now with Aldyne here encouraging her, she was aching with the need to be there again.

"Have you heard of anything? I admit, I have been rather lax in gathering information and have not heard of any new bounty's that are worth the time and my skills," she admitted with a small smile. "Not that I am bragging or anything so unseemly, I just know I can handle something that challenges me more than some woman on the run from debt collectors."

(What did you have in mind?)

"Well if you are looking for money with a risk to it..." Aldyne's eyes grew distant as he began to recite a few jobs. "Help to flush out a group of brutal group of robbers that have already robbed and killed in four separate incidents: Reward 200 Gold Pieces. Slaying of Orc Encampment that has been raiding passing merchant bands: 500 Gold Pieces. Chasing the Thief and retrieval of a Gem stolen from the local church: 450 Gold Pieces.  The hardest would be, Investigation of Lycanthropy within the City: One Thousand Gold Pieces" Aldyne then grew a little serious, "There is also an on-going investigation about an evil cult that has been causing some trouble within the city.... the reward for its location and removal is 3000 Gold pieces but there are rumors that there has already been a few casualties and a request has been sent to the Imperial Knight and Imperial Scout Garrison."

Aldyne gave Emmeline an inquiring look.

"But if I may ask, why do you need supplies?" He asked earnestly, "If you are going through the mountains, you can get all you need there. Food, wood, water and cover."

(Nothing really. Just meant make a second character to populate the story a bit more)

(NO, I didn't die, but school and life have kept me super busy at the moment and I haven't really been using the internet for anything other than work :/ I know it's been a while, so hopefully you're still around. I also got a great idea for another character, so that should be good!)

EMMELINE;

Emmeline contemplated the choices for a few moments, picking at the bread in her hands as her mind worked. Most of those bounty's she could not handle alone, but that would mean sacrificing half of what she earned to whoever she partnered up with. Her best chance was to find the thief who had stolen the gem from the local church.

"Thank you Aldyne. I will look into work as soon as I am healed enough to do so. I know you will scold me terribly if I should undo all your hard work," she said, giving away nothing of her thoughts. "As for supplies, I need a horse, and I should also not leave everything to chance in those mountains. I would like extra supplies in the event that I am stuck in a place where there is nothing I can use to give myself shelter or find game to catch or wood to burn."

Emmeline knew she was not as experienced as some in traveling and foraging for herself, and she had heard far too many stories of travelers in the mountains who were unprepared and had died in sudden blizzards. "All this is just prevention. If I am going to see my father I would prefer the first time he sees me in some time to be when I am alive and well, not dead and in the ground."

MAXEN;

Maxen scuttled across the tiled roof of the inn, invisible to the many imperial scouts around him. The fools were more adept at looking for Mage-magic, not elf magic and though he was a mage himself, the notice-me-not cloak he had stolen many years ago still worked in his favour. Fools, indeed, he thought, as their eyes swept over him. Chuckling to himself, the young mage adjusted his leather satchel as he swung down from the roof, hanging from the ledge by his feet, and looked through the window of the Orange Rose Inn.

What better place would there be to hide the cloud gem than right under the noses of those imperial scouts? They would never find it there, not if he was the one to hide it. From his vantage point, he could see into a room (obviously a woman's, from the items he saw) that was definitely empty and soon made short work of the flimsy lock with a quick whispered charm, then entered.

In the room there was a pack of clothes, a bow and quiver as well as the various other things that cam with a room at the establishment. Hmm. A fighters room. Raising an eyebrow, he paused for a few moments. There were voices out in the corridor, but they seemed not to be coming towards the room. Satisfied, Maxen began to look for a place to hide the cloud gem. He doubted the officials at the church even knew the true power behind such a relic.

(What do you think? =3)

=Aldyne=

Aldyne tapped a finger on his chin, "You could 'play' dead. It would attract a pack of wolves or a bear and that will set you up for a nice cozy fur cape and alot of meat to last you through the expedition." Aldyne said without breaking a smile.

"But in any case, I will tag along with you on whatever job you go for. I'm as free as can be right now and it'll give me a chance to..."

Aldyne broke off suddenly when he heard slight shuffling noise coming from Emmeline's room. He also caught a whiff of the smell of leaves in the air.

"Emmy, I think you have an elvish guest in your room."

(I am now thinking of a second character to add. Reldegan is more of a fill-in till then)

EMMELINE;

Emmeline stood still, intent on listening, and could hear the minute sounds of scuffling from her room. Placing a hand on the knife at her belt, the ring of the Kruger household making a small clink against the metal of the handle, she looked from at her closed door then back to Aldyne warily. "I have not yet encountered an elf who would break into a humble bounty hunter's room," she murmured, her voice just above a whisper as she inched closer to the door. "What could one possibly want in there?"

Running through an inventory in her mind, she knew she had nothing of value in her room, except perhaps some of the healing herbs she carried with her. "Should we...?" Emmeline asked, trailing off as she motioned towards the door with a nod of her head.

MAXEN;

Sensing a hint of danger in the air, Maxen set quickly to his task, loosening a floorboard and placing the cloud gem underneath it. He didn't know if there was anyone coming, but he could sense that something was afoot, whether it pertained to him he did not know.

Straightening from the floor, he pulled the hood of his cloak up and slowly surveyed his surroundings, making sure nothing he had touched looked out of place. A ribbon on the dressing table seemed askew, but surely such a small detail would not be noticed? Maxen shook his head. No, of course it would. He quickly righted the ribbon to the position it seemed to have been in then backed away to the window, checking and double checking his surroundings.

Later, he would return for the gem, then make for the underground tunnels, where he would be safer than he was with the simple (but admittedly clever) cloak.

(Ah! I got an idea for a second character.)

=Aldyne=
By the time Emmeline turned back, Aldyne had already vanished from sight. He had jumped out the window and made his way to Emmeline's room window.

Aldyne could feel a presence in the room, now that he was closer the smell of leaves was stronger, confirming that the infiltrator was definitely an elf. All of a sudden, Aldyne was taken aback. He could no longer feel the presence of the elf. He could smell him, and he could hear him, but he could not feel his presence anymore.

Magic.

He made a few gestures sseemingly to no one, but within a mere second, 4 scouts broke their cover. Two of the appeared as if they emerged from the roof and walls, while the other 2 practically appeared out of nowhere. The first two are probably the best of the new recruits, their skills were good but still lacked the familiar grace of the veterans.

The other two, were definitely veterans, Aldyne recognized both of them with great ease. Besides, the two of them held personal equipment that marked their seniority, like Aldyne's heavily runed boots and numerous sets of rings and amulets.

One thing they all absolutely have in common however, is the same unsuspecting headband that decorated all their foreheads. Although plain and unimportant looking, it is an important tool of the scouts. With a thought, it allows its wearer to peer into the darkness with ease, detect those invisible to the naked eye, and even grant them the sight to see their surroundings for what they truly are.

The five activated this power simultaneously, and they all saw the unsuspecting elf rummage around. Aldyne motioned to the four to lie in wait and they once again disappeared and Aldyne entered the room.

He stealthed up behind the elf, gently lifting the hood of the cloak and whispered, "I did not know that there were sexual deviants among elves."

(I hope I do not seem like I'm making things difficult for your new character, but the headband is actually a set equipment I had write up awhile back. sry ^_^;;;)
-------------------------------------------------------------------

=Seline=
Seline stands outside the Orange Rosse Inn. Against her father's orders, she had left the protective shell of his estate and came to this foul-smelling port town.

She was not stupid though, she brought an although small but (she believes to be) dependable entourage consisting of her lady-in-waiting/bodyguard, her personal maid and page. Her page and bodyguard were now making arrangements for her carriage to be taken care of while her maid made arrangements in the inn.

She had heard talks about a person of interest in the town and absolutely had to come no matter what. She took a deep breath, straightened her newly bought adventure gear and steeled herself.

"I will never forgive you for that humiliation that night. Aldyne Lammbert.... I will definitely make you mine." She muttered to herself and entered the inn.

----------------------------------------------------------------

=Reldegan=

As Reldegan ate his breakfast, he felt a slight chill on the bakc of his beck. He gave his neck a firm rub, "Must be coming down with something.... I;m getting too old to go chasing after the boy.... Wench! A glass of spiced wine!"

The spice wine will definitely chase the chill away, but he still could not shake the bad feeling he had been having since this morning.

(Heheheh, you like? Can you guess who this girl is?)
