Julie thought about it for a second.  This girl seemed sane.  Finally she nodded.  "Alright, just give me a moment to call my room-mate."

She pulled out her phone and searched through the menus, finally finding her room-mate's number.  The phone rang a few times before Seo-hyeon answered.

"Hi~!" Julie chimed.  After a moment she said.  "I'm just letting you know I'll be home late tonight." She spoke slower than normal.  Seo-hyeon's English was very good, but sometimes the speed of normal conversation was a little overwhelming.  "Haha, yeah there's no reason to worry.  I don't know... just put it in the fridge and I can warm it up when I get home.  Alright, seeya later."

Julie shot a smile across the table.  "Lead the way."

Mimi grinned back.  She was glad Julie had taken her up on her offer.
"It's not too far from here."  She said.  They walked out of the station and a few blocks West, until they stopped in front of a small bakery.  The lights were off, the door locked.
"I work here, and they let me keep the apartment on the second floor."  Mimi explained, pointing to a tiny window just below the roof.  She unlocked the door and let Julie inside.  Though the bakery had been closed for a few hours now, it still smelled like bread.  Mimi led Julie behind the counter and into the 'Employees Only' room.  Inside, there was a small staircase, which in turn led to a clean, sparsely-furnished apartment.
"So, I've got some frozen pizza in the fridge..."  Mimi said, walking to the tiny kitchen, "Or we can order takeout.  Make yourself at home."

"They wouldn't happen to let you keep the left over bread?" Julie joked.  The shop smelt wonderful!  It must be nice having the smell of freshly baked bread drifting up into your house every single day.  Julie looked around the apartment.  "Nice place you've got here," she said politely.

She sat down on the three seat couch.  She was told to make herself at home - but she was still nervous.  "I don't mind either way," although it wasn't completely true.  She didn't like frozen pizza.  They were always covered with that horrible artificial meat stuff, "but if we get take out, I'll gladly pay half."

"Have you got a computer?  I'll show you where to find other people."

"Oh, right."  Mimi said.  "Yeah, my laptop's on that table over there."  She rummaged in a drawer and found some take-out menus.
"Hope you don't mind, but I've been craving Italian."  She sat down on the opposite end of the couch.  She put the menus between them.  "But we can get whatever."  She placed her purse on her lap and rummaged through it, a habit she had picked up whenever she didn't know what to say.
"Sorry, if...  I seem a little strange."  She said after a while.  "I just... all this time I thought I was crazy."

"Ah, I know what that's like," she said with a faint smile.  "How long have you been seeing them?" She asked.

She picked up the menu and read the list on the back.  "Ah, I know this place!  They have a really good herb bread.  Have you tried it?  As for the pizza... I don't really mind.  They all sound pretty good.  I don't really like anchovies though..."

"Anchovies are gross."  Mimi agreed, avoiding Julie's question.  She dialed in the number, ordering quickly.
"Yeah.  Um, it's the White Elephant bakery, on fifth and-- Yes, I know it's closed.  I'll meet you out front.  Yes, I live above it.  Okay.  Bye."  She hung up and shook her head.  "They usually know by the order, must be a newbie."  She picked up the menus and walked back to the kitchen, placing them back in the drawer she had taken them from.

Sitting back on the couch, she didn't look at Julie for a while.  Then, with a sigh, she shrugged.
"I've seen them since I was fourteen.  My father... passed away."

Julie felt guilty.  She realised how tactless it was to ask about the experience - especially since they had only just met.  There was a moments silence before she simply said, "Sorry, I shouldn't have asked.  But you're not alone.  Lots of people have said that they developed the sight after the death of a loved one."  Perhaps it'd be better if she told her own story.  "My story's a little different.  When I was in high school I got very sick.  I almost died.  After that... that's when I could see them."

She nervously looked around, focusing her eyes on the computer.  The screen saver flickered.  Julie motioned towards it. "How about we power that guy on?"

"Oh!  Right..."  Mimi stood and brought her laptop back to the couch.  The screen flickered on, and she went to her Internet browser.
"So... if you've had a close encounter with death... that's how you're able to see them?"  She asked.  "But what are they?  Are they really ghosts?"  She placed the computer in Julie's lap to type in the address of the web site.

The site's URL was an unusual one - it was merely a combination of numbers and letters, rather than actual words.  The people on this forum were secretive - and unless you knew what you were looking for you'd never find it.  It was a small forum - only 200 members, but it was incredibly active with almost 50 members online right now.

"This is it," Julie proclaimed proudly.  "Everybody here is the same as us.  It's just so nice to have a place to talk about this... It's not something you can mention to the average person.  Julie clicked on one of the newest topics, titled 'Have you been seeing more of them recently?

"I'm 'Lore' on this site," Julie said, pointing to one of her own posts.  "I wonder..." Julie muttered, more to herself than to Mimi.  In a new tab, she went to the website of the local newspaper.  Instantly, she noticed the main headline from that morning.

Escaped Mental Patient still on the Loose

Residents have been asked to watch out for an escaped mental patient.  Linden Tracker escaped from the Royal Health and Well-being institute at around 7pm yesterday.  During his escape, Linden attacked and wounded several security personnel.  The boy is described as being 15 years of age, short, of Caucasian appearance, and with brown hair.  Linden is described as being extremely dangerous.  If a resident has information about Linden's whereabouts, Police detective Martin Pryce urges them to "keep their distance and to contact the proper authorities."  Martin Pryce also stated children must be informed by their parents about this escapee, as he may prefer to approach other children rather than adult.

"That's him!  That's the boy we saw earlier today... I guess they caught him again."

"Woah..."  Mimi breathed.  "It's a good thing the police got him, I guess...  We could really have been hurt or something."  She shuddered.  She saw movement outside, someone walking around.
"I think the pizza's here."  She said.  "Um, I guess I'll go get it.  Be right back."  She got up, walking down the stairs and to the front of the store.  Upon opening the door, however, she saw that there was no car outside, nor any pizza delivery man.
"Um, hello?  Anyone here?"  She called.

Linden. at the first sigh of it opening BURST through the door, breathing heavily, more blood on his face he sported a devilish grin as he dived behind the nearest available object, he scratched and licked at his several wounds.

"Help" he mumbled quietly, as several of the Men in white approached from afar, A look of true terror could be seen in Linden's eyes.
"Boys and girls of every age, wouldn't you like to see something strange?"

Mimi cried out in surprise as the boy ran inside.  Once she saw who it was, her blood turned to ice.
"J-julie..."  Her voice came out in a strained whisper.  She flattened herself against the wall.  She didn't want him to notice her  The paper had said that he was dangerous...  She didn't want to find out to what extent.  Carefully, slowly, she made her way back to the stairs to her apartment.  "Julie!"

Julie put the computer on the couch and sped down the stairs - stopping dead in her tracks when she noticed who was downstairs.  He was captured!  She saw it herself!  He escaped again?  And how did he even find them?  Her bag and her phone was upstairs.

Part of her felt sorry for him, but mostly she was just afraid.

"Please," she pled.  "We don't want any trouble.  Just let us be."

Linden was huddled into a corner surrounded by the two women, he covered his face with his hands, and groaned "NO can't go back, thay don't know ... I need help" he whined, blood steadily dripping from him.

A small patrol of the white men was noisily approaching the premises, they had been give new orders no longer carrying the capture sticks, but weapons Live, Loaded, Weapons.

Linden let out a faint cry...
"Boys and girls of every age, wouldn't you like to see something strange?"
