IC: Hard day at work. First this
bitch
came in who thought she knew everything. She'd critique to type of cream, how it was being applied, even had the nerve to give some 'fashion advice' during the treatment. Then this woman came in with a young kid. He seemed good and quiet at first, but half way through the facial, when his mom's face was covered in a mud mask and six of her toes painted, the kid started to howl. It was too late to ask her to leave, so Julie had to complete the entire treatment with a brat screaming about how hungry he was in the corner.
She massaged her forehead and put her feet up on the seat opposite her. The train ride home was a short one, only around 15 minutes. Easy to just pop her headphones in and zone out. She was almost home when she saw one of
them
. She'd always been hesitant to call them ghosts, but there was no better word for them. She didn't like talking to them - especially in a public place like this.
The ghost was an old man, perhaps in his 70s and thin as a stick. He wore an old fashioned bowler hat and a dirty pullover. "I'm worried about Simone," he said. Julie bit her lip. She wasn't going to respond.
"What's wrong with her." Julie glanced around. The woman sitting right next to her could see the ghost too.
"She's pregnant, but..."
"You should be happy for her."
"It's not that easy, the boy, he's in prison. She'll never manage..."
Julie inspected the old woman. Her eyes were opened too wide, mouth stretched to a permanent grin and she'd rock back and forth occasionally. She was long gone.
'This is Horton. Horton Station.'
This was her stop. Julie rose from her seat. The train slowed to a halt, and the doors sprung open. She glanced back one last time at the ghost and the elderly woman, before stepping out.

Linden breathed deeply, his back against a cracked stone wall, he gulped ... the spirit had gone he was on is own once more ...at least he wished he was.
"Keep Looking" a voice drifted from above the barren wall.
It came instinctively, like any creature being followed ... he ran passing through the various surroundings, the attention of his followers now raised, he held his arms close as the facility's coat held him tight.
"no" he murmured hearing his followers approaching, he ran past civilians blindly living their lives, carefree if he could get transport he could leave for good ... find others who believed, he yelped and couldn't believe his misfortune, so close to a train and it happened, in a quick motion Linden had tripped, smashing into the ground, his face bleeding slightly as his pursuers approached.

Julie returned her headphones to her ears, and clutching her rail pass, made her way to the exit. She made her way down the long platform, towards the stairs up to ground level. Suddenly, a kid rushed past her. She ignored him and continue on her way, until she heard a crash through her music. She span around and found the boy sprawled out on the ground, with a face full of blood.
A beeping sound could be heard over the intercom. The train doors snapped shut, and it slowly departed from the platform.
Julie rushed over to the boy. "Are you okay?" she stammered.
She held his arm to help him up. Only then did she realise how bad the bleeding was. She gasped, and rummaged around for a small packet of tissues in her purse. She held them out to him with a quivering hand "Here..." It was bad. She was no doctor, it looked like he might have broken his nose.
"I'll-- I'll call an ambulance." She pulled her phone from her pocket. Of course, there was no signal down here. She'd have to go up to the surface.

Linden looked up to see the girl and attempted to stand he tore the majority of a tissue from the packet and quickly wiped his face, he grunted in pain as he felt his nose jostle as it was touched, he went to continue and saw the group of men rushing towards them, in their hands a long baton with what seemed like a collar around it he jumped down and grabbed the girl by her arms.
Frantically he spoke "you see them ..." he pointed weakly to the group "they come fore , m..e but they don't know ...." he scratched at his face as though something was on it "they think ... I'm crazy imagine that" he grinned turning round and pointing "them .... it's them, they talk to me" he shuddered seemingly terrified as a ghost the same as had been on the train floated past "and .. now they think i'm safe ... i.in their cell ... but there" he gave a sort of painful laugh pointing to the ghost once more "there every whe..."
His sentence was cut short as one of the men, tackled him to the ground Linden yelped in pain as he did and the other men looped the wire collars round his neck, he spluttered and choked as they pulled and began to return to the surface dragging him behind he shouted "LINDEN NUMBER 298, LINDEN NUMBER 298" as he was pulled up the stairs, and one of the men approached the girl.
The man, tall in an bright white suit of what appeared to be armour held his hand out to the girl " are you alright miss" he asked, taking deep breaths as he had just tackled what he believed to be a mad man

"Oh ye know, they just dun make 'em anymore like they used to. Buying dames for a dime by a dozen. I pay a handful of those for a drink! Cheap slags I'll tell you! Not even whores, they are. Back in my day sonny, everything was better. Now's all one big pile 'o rub-" the sunburned face shot up and inch and bounced right back again. Dazed the woman looked, like her eyes were trying to figure out what was left and what was right again. Her conversation partner, or rather involuntary audience, was more than done with her and ready to offer up his seat. "Where do ye think you're going, feller?" Hiccupped the woman, and pointed her fingers at him like a gun. The man frowned at the gesture, to which the ginger laughed.
"It's not real, silly." She shrieked, and made a bang-sound. "Siddown ye bloody bastard, I'm still talking!" The man smirked an awkward grin, but didn't listen to her and proceeded to stand up. The blush on her cheeks turned scarlet and she spit on the table. "Hold yer bloody horses!" she scowled as she pulled a revolver out of her purse beneath the table. "This one

Julie had never been so conflicted in her life. That kid could see them. He was probably insane... He did say something about a cell. Ghosts seemed to take away people's minds, she thought to herself glumly. But that poor kid, locked up in his cell. But what could she do about it. She wasn't his mother... she couldn't take him home and 'make him better'. She had a feeling he was long past 'getting better'. And besides, what would Seo-hyeon say?
"I'm fine," she said to the man in the white suit. "He didn't hurt me." She looked awkwardly up the stairs where they had lead him away. "Did you really need to do that to him?" she asked uneasily. Why were they being so brutal? "He's just a little kid. He wasn't being violent or anything!"

Linden bit into the arm of one of the men, the guard yelped in pain as others rushed to remove linden battered and blooded Linden started yelling once more LINDEN NUMBER 298" as he was simply lifted and tossed into the back of a van filled with more men, as he jumped for the door they slammed shut, the name Clear skys asylum on the back.
The man lent down lifting the girl onto her feet "YES we had to do that" he commented scratching at his throat lightly, "that "little kid" as you put it has been nothing but trouble" he gently rubbed his arm, walking away "... Strong little bugger too" he remarked The clear skys logo on his back, he rejoined the men hopping back into the van, it drove away as several other men tried to calm down the small crowd that had formed.

He said he could see them...
Mimi had silently walked up behind Julie and was watching the van as it drove away. She felt bad for the boy, of course... But slightly hopeful at what he had said before he had been taken away.
He pointed right at the old man...
She thought.
Does that mean I'm not the only one?
She took off her hat and ruffled her short, choppy hair, something she did when she was thinking. She didn't want to be taken away like that boy... But she had to know... This was her chance to prove once and for all that she wasn't crazy. She had to talk to that girl.
"Uh..." Her voice came out strained and quiet. Her hand was less than an inch from the other girl's shoulder. She pulled back, suddenly terrified.
Get ahold of yourself, Patterson.
She scolded herself.
You're just going to talk to her. You can talk to people. It's not like she's gonna ninja out and kill you...
Still... Mimi didn't like talking to people she didn't know. It always made her anxious... and it made her stutter.
"S... 'scuse m-me..." She tapped Julie on the shoulder. No turning back now. The girl had to know she was there. What if she thought she was crazy? What if she was in with the people who took that boy away? Her heart was pounding in her ears."Y-you saw the... the old man, t-too... Didn't you?"

She glanced up the stairs, where the men had taken the boy. She was scared... and she didn't want them to hear what she was just about to admit. "Yeah I can." She hadn't admitted it in a long time, and it felt good to have somebody in-the-flesh believe her
outrageous
claim.
There was a moments silence. Well, she had nowhere to go. The plan was to go home, heat up some leftovers and watch reruns of Sex and the City. She glanced over at the old man again. He was just standing there, silent. "Do you-- do you want to get a coffee or something?"

"Me?" Mimi asked, surprised.
Of course you, you idiot. Who do YOU think she's talking to?
Her conscience could be quite obnoxious sometimes. But she had found what she was looking for. She found someone else who could see the Others! She wasn't crazy!
"Uh, s-sure." She said. "I'm Mimi." Mimi never drank coffee (she hated the stuff), but she didn't want to pass this up. This was a chance to talk to someone who actually understood what she was going through.
"All this time... I thought I was the only one who could see them..."

The coffee shop was a large chain in this area. Cheep coffee, and usually okay. It was time for everybody to go home after a long days work - and the coffee shop staff was no exception. They hovered nervously behind the counter, waiting for the last few customers to just
get out
.
Julie took a long drink from her thick black coffee before replying. "I'm Julie. I don't know much about them," she admitted. "I've met a few other people who can see them. There was an old woman on my train.
That
kid could too. Most of the time... they seem crazy to me."
There was an awkward pause - which Julie promptly filled by taking another long drink of coffee. "I speak to other people online who can see them too. A lot of them think... they take your mind."

"Wait, there are others?" Mimi asked, looking up. "So it's not just a fluke I ran into you?" She had nearly drained her hot chocolate by now, and felt more at ease after talking to Julie for a while. She grinned; an odd wide smile that seemed out of place on her thin face. She rummaged in her old tote bag for a moment, then produced her diary.
"I keep track of all the Others I've seen... in here." She said. "I've seen them since I was fourteen." She opened to the next blank space (which was difficult to find), and scribbled a few notes.
saw an old man at the station. He got off a train. I met someone else who can see Them. She says there are more.
"Something I've been wondering..." She said, looking up at Julie. "Why can we see them?"
You know why YOU can see them.
She thought to herself.
It can't be a coincidence that it started after Dad...

Linden grunted and mumbled, as he was guided to his cell, two armoured men carrying him, as he spotted the cursed spirits that wandered the halls of the asylum he screamed and struggled, causing him to get beaten by the men.
"Your all crazy" he mumbled, receiving another hard hit to the head, snarling at the man he whimpered and struggled once more, he had been wrestled into a straight jacket as he came to the familiar walls of his cell.
"Hell" he snarled, looking at the thick metal doors with the number 298 plastered on them, as the guard opened the gate he was escorted inside, through several doors of metal, and many more guards, he grinned at the mass security as he reached his destination.
His familiar and predictable soft white room, as he was thrown in, he stumbled about until he was sitting cross-legged, he gave a toothy grin as the door shut, spirits converging around him "there time will come" he mumbled.

She kept a notebook? Julie watched on nervously as she jotted down a short line of text. She understood how it felt to need an outlet, but the idea of writing it in a book that anybody could just pick up and read made her feel uneasy. At least on the internet, you were protected by anonymity.
"Yeah, there's plenty of others... they're not always the kinda person you want to talk to though. As for
why
we can see them... well there's theories about that too. Some people I've spoken to say they've been able to see them since birth. Most other people are able to pinpoint a moment in their life when they started appearing. It's often after an accident or something..."
Out of the corner of her eye - behind Mimi's shoulder, Julie could see the ghost of a young boy - probably not even 5 years old. She looked away, trying her hardest to ignore him. She wanted to help this girl - but talking about this in public felt strange. "Do you want me to give you my number... or the URL of one of the places I visit online?"
Suddenly the boy wailed, "Mommy! Where is my Mommy!"

"Well..." Mimi thought for a minute. "H-how about you come over to my place? We can talk more, without... you know..." She winced as the child began to scream.
She thought about what Julie had said. Some people saw them after something traumatic had happened... Her face fell. She knew exactly what it was that made her able to see them. How could she forget?
((So sorry about the short post... I just have writers' block with this one, for some odd reason...))
