A World Made Of Pure Imagination [WMPI]
« on: July 09, 2010, 01:04:54 AM »
There was a rulebook that the original puppeteers made to keep order in the world.
1. The puppeteer will be alerted when one of their puppets is in trouble via telepathy.
2. The puppeteer that owns the Alternate Territory may boot any outsiders they please, even if they have not met the person themselves.
2a. One of their puppets meeting the outsider will work just fine.
3. Original Characters are allowed in any amount. They, however, will not be controlled as tightly as puppets. Perhaps not controlled at all, depending on how strong the Original's will is.
4. Rule of Four: Each puppeteer is allowed four individual puppets.
5. Death in canon means nothing. The puppeteer is allowed to bring them back.
6. Death in an Alternate Territory can be reversed by bringing the body or a part of the body into another Alternate Territory.
g1. Try to make as much lulz as possible.

A World Made of Pure Imagination; It is a freeing place made of anything you can possibly dream.

At first, before anyone came along, it was blank. Pure white filled the imaginary world. Then, after the puppeteers started to enter, they got a part of the world to themselves, their AT. They shaped these territories to their liking. One moment, you could have just walked through one puppeteer's howling blizzard to be greeted by the next puppeteer's sunny gardens.

The puppeteers would not have been puppeteers without puppets, of course! Each one chose four characters of other creators' belonging, otherwise known as "Fandom characters" or "Puppets".

It was the choice of the puppeteer whether or not they wanted to interfere with the ones they controlled. Usually, their desire to be with their characters overruled their logic, so it wasn't too hard of a choice.

Puppeteers had the choice to take full (unwilling) control over their puppets. Most times, if a puppeteer chose a puppet they hated, they would do just that.

So the story begins now...

The large Victorian-style house was lovely, set against a backdrop of ancient cherry trees and a cloudy gray sky.  The young woman, humming to herself, walked up the path toward it, enjoying the slightly-chilly Spring morning.  She tried to let the seasons change with the calendar...  But weather-wise, a full sunny day was rare.  She much preferred the rain, anyway.  And it didn't seem to bother any of her companions, so why should she care?
"I don't think you want to go inside just yet, Sophie."  A voice said.  She squeaked, nearly jumping out of her skin.  Looking to her left, she saw that she had failed to notice the redheaded young man leaning against a tree.
"And why not, Kurama?"  She asked.  "It's my house."  Kurama nodded amicably
"It's true.  Your space, your house...  But there's a battle of wills going on inside, and I'd rather not be a part of it."
"Wait..."  Sophie stopped, crossing her arms.  "What do you mean, a battle of wills?"  Kurama smiled sheepishly.
"Well..."  He began carefully, "As you know, Erik's composing another opera...  And I guess he was having trouble on this one part, so he was playing it over and over on the piano in the basement.  And you know how irritable Jareth can get sometimes."
"Oh, no."  Sophie sighed.  Both the Opera Ghost and the Goblin King had monumental egos.  It sometimes took all her patience not to simply delete the both of them and come up with new companions.  "Wait, what about Basch?"
"He can take care of himself."  He reassured her.  "He's probably outside wandering, as I am."
"How long has this been going on?"  Sophie asked.  Kurama checked his watch.
"Um, a little over an hour.  Shouldn't last much longer, but, just in case... Care for a walk?"

One of the original puppeteers, Snickerdoodle Cookie, stood near the middle of her AT. Above ground, a great courthouse, several homes, and a dog park behind one of them. Next to the puppeteer stood a large pit with a ladder that reached all the way down to the underground, non-gambling casino. She liked the mild spring temperatures, the mild fall temperatures, and the winter's chill. Her AT skipped summer accordingly.
Cookie wore a name tag on her black dress that read "Kay Cee". Her second alias. (The first being Alana Stetson.)

Kay Cee walked into the courthouse to find Manfred von Karma on his way to the elevator after apparently winning a case.

"OBJECTION! You don't belong here! And uh, this evidence supports that!" Kay Cee held up the fact that a certain Von Karma had been sentenced to death.

The ghastly "OBJECTION!" from Mr. Perfect sounded throughout the room. He shook his head, then wagged his finger. "Tsk, tsk, tsk." He held up a memo stating that previous death had no bearing on whether or not a character was alive in an AT. "This decisive evidence is all I need. If I must explain it in a way you would understand, it is your fault I am here."

Kay Cee immediately lost some of her Court Health. "What the hell? This isn't really a trial," she mumbled under her breath. "You win for now, but I'll get you, Bad Karma!" Manfred had already made his way into the elevator. The doors closed ever so slowly. "You hear me?! I WON'T LOSE SO EASILY!" She noted his smug expression as he left.

Kay Cee peeked into Courtroom #2 to find Lady von Whippingberg and Edgeworth in the middle of a trial, so she left them alone for the time being.

She left the courthouse to find out that her new rival was nowhere in sight. Kay Cee, however, did find Kuwabara playing with his cat in one of the small homes. That one was presumably his. Okay, it was definitely his. She took a bag of cat treats out of her pocket to give to him.
"Heh, I forgot to give you these yesterday," she said.

Kuwabara accepted the treats. He immediately asked the cat, "Hey, Eikichi, who's been a good girl?" with the treat in his hand for her. She ate it happily. The moment he thought to actually thank Kay Cee, she had already shut the door on her way out.

"Now to find something at which I can beat Bad Karma," she mumbled. The introvert didn't even consider leaving her own territory.

After winding their way slowly through the forest and around the lake, Kurama and Sophie reached the end of the path.  Beyond it was nothing but fog.  Sophie hated coming here.  Knowing that there was a boundary on her nearly-perfect world made her feel trapped, like a bird in a cage.
"Do you think someone else's AT is out there?"  Kurama asked, staring out into the swirling white.  She shrugged.
"It's a possibility.  I mean, it's impossible that I'm the only one here..."  Sophie mused.  "But I've never thought about going beyond...  I mean, what if there's nothing there?"
"Nothing ventured, nothing gained, my lady."  The two turned and saw Basch walking up.  He nodded slightly.
"You're awfully far from the house."  Kurama observed.  The judge magister grimaced.
"The argument has spilled to the outside."  He said moodily.
"Well, then we can just walk along the outskirts until it stops..."  Sophie offered.  Basch shrugged.  They would have started back to wander through the trees some more, until Kurama stopped.
"Something wrong?"  Sophie asked.  He shook his head, though his eyes remained on the end of the path.
"I think we should go exploring."  He said, a glint in his eye.  "I'm curious to see what's beyond the fog."
"I-I don't know..."  She looked down at the ground.
"It is in our best interest to protect you, my lady."  Basch said.  "If you cease to exist, then so do we."
"That's an awfully cheery way to think.  Thanks, Gabranth."  Sophie glowered.
"He's right, though."  Kurama offered.  "Let's not argue.  Come on!"  He took his puppeteer by the arm.  Sophie would have protested, but something inside her was just as curious as he was.  With Basch taking up the rear, the three stepped off the path and into the mist.

The sky was cloudy, but blue. A sun shone through the cloud cover, which wouldn't have seemed to odd if the clouds weren't green and pink. A small gazebo stood in the middle of the strange plot of land, and a little ways away was a corner tea shop, the windows covered in condensation and the gold lettering on them peeling off. Behind the tea house was a single row of grave stones- the names too faded to read anymore... and a bit to the left of that a series of cottages. The grass was spotted with wild flowers, and the paths connecting the three areas were paved with moss. The temperature moderate, a lone figure sat in the gazebo.

Indistinguishable between male and female, the figure's legs were sprawled out on the gazebo's floor, propping themselves up with their hands. With their head tilted back, a paper mask over their face depicting a skull, Zeal closes their eyes and sighs.
"Such a nice day again."

"Only because you want it to be." Zeal opens an eye and looks lazily over to the well dressed man standing at the entrance of the gazebo.

"Stop being such a downer, Bruce. I like to think that it'd be this way anyway." Sitting up all the way they put a hand over one eye and rub softly. "Where's everyone else?"

"I don't know, the tea house maybe." Bruce said, putting his hands in his suit pockets and gazing sternly down at the young... whatever Zeal was. "Scout was looking for, as was Mr. Slenderman."

"And what about our dear old Alex?" Bruce frowned heavily.

"He's in the tea shop, drinking Miloko and playing with his snake." Sighing, Zeal stood up and brushed off their wrinkled gray khakis.

"Okay, then. Mind taking me to wherever Slendy is? I'd rather talk to someone that doesn't talk back than to Scout right now." Bruce nodded and Zeal followed him, curious as he turned off the paths to the cottages and instead started to head towards the foggy edge of her place. It made sense, though. Slendy did love the fog, hiding on the fringe of madness.

Miles walked out from the courthouse. "..." He kept silent.
"Say, Edgeworth, how was the trial?" Kay Cee asked once an edgy Edgey walked past. "Was the defendant innocent or guilty?"

Miles snapped out of his daze. "Did you say something?" he asked. He wore an intimidating glare.
"How was the trial, Edgeworth?" she asked with a smile. "Who did it?"
Miles looked down to the grass. "It turned out to be my client after all. I couldn't believe it."
Kay Cee's smile disappeared. "Oh. Well.. At least you weren't facing Bad Karma."

Miles picked his head up. "Bad Karma?"
"Manfred," Kay Cee explained. "Bad Karma is a bit more punny." Miles just nodded. He started to walk off when Kay Cee shouted,
"HOLD IT!"
He turned back around. She gave him a box of dog treats. "These are for Pesu."

"Th-" Miles started, but then left before he finished a word.

It took her quite the effort to make sure Manfred and Miles did not cross paths while both of them walked around out there. If they did, Mr. Perfect would 'erase his mistake' and she would have to pick a different puppet to put in Edgey's place. She imagined using Feenie or Maya, but then cursed at herself for even considering to let Darth Vader have his way.

She walked to the edge. It was the only mystery left that she couldn't control. It was true that she didn't like to have complete control over the weather. In fact, she gave everything except hot sunshine a chance of happening. She didn't affect the outcome in any other way. "Heh, I wonder what happened to the others," she thought out loud. "Where did they go?"

Way back when... Kay Cee closed her eyes.
The fog between her territory and others didn't exist then; back when the originals still lived there. Stormy and Kim used to be her favorite neighbors, and a little kid by the name of Z sometimes came around to annoy her. Cookie was able to see Alternate Territories just a meter away from each other. Soon enough, Stormy grew bored of the monotony and left her AT forever. Eventually, it disappeared with her many puppets.

Cookie had problems with the number of her puppets, so she ended up making the Rule of Four. A list that spanned great distance was reduced to Edmund Blackadder, Cat, and the Time Lord Master. Even then, she couldn't use them well once Z stopped using Flashheart and Baldric.

Kay Cee was forced out of her daydream when a loud whip struck her from behind. After a brief cry of pain, she turned around and greeted cheerfully, "Hi, Franzy! I heard your trial went well. Details, please!"

"I would look the fool if I foolishly divulged information about any part of the trial," Franziska said. "It was classified." She walked forward and looked out into the fog. "You never answered my question. What is out there?"

Kay Cee turned back to the fog. "I don't know anymore."

Nothing is true. Everything is permitted.

As Kay Cee and Franziska looked out into the fog, faint voices began to be heard.
"I think... we should turn back now, guys."  A woman's voice said tentatively.
"Nonsense."  A smooth voice replied.  "I'm sure there's something just up ahead."
"I can't see a thing, and I know your eyesight can't be that much better than mine."  The woman replied.
"Maybe it's his demon roots that help him."  A third, gruff voice offered.
"That may be..."  The second voice said.  "I actually never thought about it.  But I could almost swear there's something..."
"But that's what you said ten minutes ago!"  The woman sighed.
"My lady is quite impatient."  The third laughed.

Eventually, three forms could be seen making their way towards the edge of Kay Cee's world.  They continued their conversation, seeming not to see anything until they burst from the mist.  As the sunlight hit the three of them, they stopped mid-step.
"Oh my god..."  Sophie breathed.  "You were right..."
"I... suppose I was..."  Kurama said, looking around with wide eyes.
"We have company."  Basch turned, looking at Kay Cee and Franziska.  Sophie jumped when she realized they were there, then offered a shy smile.
"Um... H-hi, neighbor..."

Zeal followed Bruce to the edge of the fog, where they both paused.
"Slendy?" Zeal called out. Bruce chuckled. Of course he wouldn't answer, he didn't talk... but at least a tentacle wave? Sighing, the both of them take a step into the fog.
"HEY! HEY, GUYS!" Letting out a little groan at the familiar voice, Zeal turns and watches as a young man bursts through the fog. Missing his front tooth and covered in bandages, he wasn't used to not having respawn yet, the young man smiles. "Oh, I see. You two sneakin' off to have some alone time, eh, eh?" Bruce frowns and gives a sideways glance at Zeal. 'Alone time'? Zeal, on the other hand, laughs.
"Jealous?" Scout scoffs and shakes his head.
"Nawww, bored. Alex was starting to creep me out, and I can't understand anything he's saying."
"You're just not listening, malchick." A smooth voice says as Alex walks into the fog with his beloved snake draped around his shoulders. "You think too fast, my dear brother."
"I don't think he thinks much at all." Bruce mutters, and as Scout starts to gear up for a comeback Zeal puts a hand on his shoulder.
"Come on, guys. Lets just find Slendy so we can get home, please?" Alex looks nonchalantly around the fog, before walking past them all. Scout huffs and shuffles after him, and Bruce turns as well. Sighing, Zeal follows and keeps a sharp eye out through the fog. After a few minutes, they smile and jog ahead.
"Slendy?!" A tall, dark figure is barely visible loping through the fog- it turns slightly and looks down with its blank face at Zeal. "There you are... why did you wander off..." Then Zeal began to notice how the fog had disappeared, and instead they were standing at the edge of what looked like a small city. There where a few homes around a larger building that looked like a courthouse. As the other three made their way through, they all stopped and looked around.
"Well." Bruce said, putting his hands in his pockets and turning his head left and right. "This is new."
"Dude! Check out that big building! I bet they have some sweet intelligence..." Scout said, digging his foot into the ground. Alex gazed up at the courthouse, a frown full of loathing on his face.
"Reminds me a bit of some nasty bits of my past, this does."
Zeal looked back up at Slendy, who had turned his blank face to a group of people a bout a hundred yards away. There where others?
"It is new, ain't it..." Zeal said, waving at the larger group.

"I suppose that answers your question, Franzy," Kay Cee said as the other puppeteer and her crew entered KC's AT. She bowed to the newcomers. "Welcome. I am Kay Cee, formerly Snickerdoodle Cookie*, one of the original puppeteers and possibly the only original puppeteer left. We created the rules of the universe."

She closed her eyes.
Sasuke ate the impregnation sandwich made by Stormy. He suddenly ran off to the bathroom. Puking sounds emerged from the thin walled room. The highly interfering Cookie laughed. Oh, the next nine months would be so fun...
She opened her eyes a little with a, "Heh."

About one hundred yards away, Miles walked a cute dog through the dog park. "I have these unnecessary feelings, Pesu(Pess? Bah, I'm not bothering with that mess). It got worse yesterday, when I was told about 'Yaoi fangirls' mixing up my feelings with other, weirder ones. Unease, I said, unease. Of course they did not listen." All he could do was sigh.

Manfred von Karma had already gone inside and locked his door. All he had to do was wait for another case, a perfect case of course. Even his puppeteer was a bug to be squashed. A persistent bug, but a bug nonetheless. What was that? An envelope on his desk? He opened it perfectly.
Manfred von Karma,
I am proud to announce that you are going to be a defendant in court for criminal personality.
You will be put on trial tomorrow.
Don't try getting out of it.
If found guilty of acting like/being Darth Vader, you will be going down to the Underground Casino.

Mr. Perfect's ghastly "OBJECTION!" sounded throughout the building. "This is completely ridiculous." Nobody really heard him say that. Oh well. He knew he wasn't Darth Vader.

"Oh!  Um, hi, Kay Cee!"  Sophie said.  "My name's Sophie...  I'm the puppet-- the girl next door, I guess."  She offered her hand.  "These are two of my friends.  His name's Basch, and that guy over there is...  Kurama?"  She looked around.  Kurama had disappeared.
"I could have sworn he was right here..."  Sophie muttered.
"I saw him walk off suddenly, in that direction."  Basch said, pointing.  Sophie looked down the street, but couldn't see a thing.
"Sorry..."  She smiled sheepishly.  "Guess I better go find him."  She walked off in the direction Kurama had supposedly taken.
Suddenly, a large barn owl flew out of the fog and hit her full in the back.  Sophie yelped in surprise, falling over.
"Are you all right, Sophie?"  Basch asked, helping her to her feet.
"Yeah, just startled me, that's all..."  She muttered.  She turned and glared at the owl, which sat placidly on the ground, glaring right back up at her.
"And what, praytell, was that for?"  She  scowled.  There was a large column of smoke, and a man with unusual blonde hair stood in front of her in place of the owl.
"I sensed that our slave driver had left the premises, and I grew curious."  Jareth said simply.  "I left His Gruesomeness in the basement to compose more horrible arias."  Catching a glimpse of Kay Cee and Franziska, he looked at them with disinterest.
"Don't these commoners know to bow in the presence of royalty?"

Kay Cee didn't even notice Jareth. She had gotten so used to ignoring Manfred's big ego, Jareth's voice sounded like a strong wind. "She's Franziska von Karma. You could get away with calling her Franzy or 'that whip-happy prosecutor'." She pointed at Lady von Whippingberg. "All right, I'll help you go find this Kurama person. Hey, I heard he's a friend of Kuwabara's."

Franziska, however, was not amused. She gripped her whip tight. "Who is this fool, foolishly calling me a commoner?" She tugged on her whip. An unseen force stopped her from actually whipping the newcomer. "Let go of me, Kay Cee."

"You can whip people later," Kay Cee told her. "Like during the trial tomorrow. I'll let you hit the witness as much as you like." Poor Edgeworth. She started down the street to see if she could possibly find the redhead demon.

With Eikichi in hand, Kuwabara left his designated house. He walked up the street without thinking about where he was going or what his intended target even was. He figured he would find it/him/her eventually.

"Huh...  That may be where he went off to."  Sophie said.  "All right, let's go!"
"That Von Karma's quite interesting."  The blonde man muttered to himself.  "Not too bad from the rear, either..."
"Jareth!  Behave yourself!"  Sophie hissed, elbowing the goblin king sharply in the ribs.  He glowered at her, and at Basch as well for no reason.  Sophie quickened her pace to walk beside Kay Cee.
"Your AT is... so much bigger than mine."  She said off-handedly.  It may have been because there were so many buildings... but somehow Sophie knew that this territory was easily twice the size of her modest space.

Kurama walked along the street of small houses.  They all looked so familiar to him...  And then he stopped dead in his tracks as a familiar face turned the corner.
"Kuwabara?!"

Franziska fought Kay Cee's hold with everything in her power. Eventually, she figured out it was no use. She looked at her bare wrist. "I have a witness to prepare," she hissed. With that, she left to find Miles.

Kay Cee laughed nervously. "Oh, right.. I was around before the Rule of Four was put into place. I used to have hundreds of puppets, but now most of the places where they lived are being or have been demolished." She scratched the back of her head.

Kuwabara shouted, "Hey, Kurama! I thought someone was only able to have four people around!" Obviously, Kay Cee never told him about other people who used to be past the fog. She really didn't tell any of them about that, but especially not a guy like Kuwabara. He would have ran aimlessly into the fog and never reached a destination.
"So what are you doing here, Kurama?!"

After a few minutes of walking with Sophie, Kay Cee admitted, "I thought everybody abandoned this place a long time ago... and that I was the only one.. Heh."

Miles walked back into his room only to hear a ring at the doorbell. "Who could that be?"

"It's great to see you, Kuwabara!"  Kurama grinned.  "My friends and I were just paying a visit...  I had no idea I'd run into you here!"  That was not entirely true.  The instant he, Sophie and Basch appeared on the fringe of Kay Cee's world, he sensed the familiar energy of his friend, and set off to find the source.
"Although I suppose I should have told Sophie I was leaving first..."  He said sheepishly.  "She gets worried easily.  Thinks I'm dead in a ditch somewhere if I'm five minutes late for something..."

"It must be nice to have had more people."  Sophie said.  "I mean, having my four is great, usually...  But sometimes I wonder what it would be like to have more."
"Then why don't you simply conjure up someone else to admire me?"  Jareth asked.  "Why not replace Erik?  How about for Sarah?  You remember my telling you about Sarah, don't you?"
"You mention it daily."  Basch intoned, placing himself between Sophie and the Goblin King.
"I'm not replacing anyone."  Sophie said.  "Not even you, Jareth."
"Aww, is this where the sappy violin plays and we all hug it out?" He simpered.  "Come here, tin man."
"Touch me and I may use deadly force."

Meanwhile, back at the fringe of the world, a tall man in a dark suit appeared, a white mask over half of his face.
"Interesting."  He mused.

Kay Cee laughed. "I always thought about replacing Bad Karma with Feenie but I never really did." She shook her head.

"Oh hoh hoh. You'd think having more would be great, wouldn't you? Sasuke kept trying to kill people, the Master infected everybody with his insanity, Stephenie Meyer took over the world, Shion was about to go 'murderous rampage', I ran into a building or two, the elves got drunk, most of them never really got to be used..." Kay Cee trailed off.
She turned to the blond man. "Oh, when did you get here?" she asked.

Kuwabara froze and said, "I'm sure someone's coming." With a few more seconds, he calmed down. "Oh, that's Kay."

Meanwhile, with Miles, he opened the door. "What did you want?" To gloat over her earlier 'revenge', most likely.
"You are the witness in the next case, are you not?" Franziska asked.
Their conversation was further shielded by a curtain of suspense.
