"A nice day to begin school on."
Headmaster Li stretched luxuriously. The morning was truly a beautiful one, and it wouldn't hurt anyone if he took the moment to enjoy it. He gazed up into the brilliant urban sky.
"Not a cloud in sight." Li thought to himself.
He strode leisurely to his beloved sedan. The blindingly white Cresta was kept in tip-top shape, rubbed down lovingly every evening by its doting owner. He launched himself into the driver's seat, humming as he did so. The engines rumbled quietly, and he began the first of many commutes to the new school. Buoyed by his pleasant mood, Li's thoughts drifted to how he had wound up in governance of the school. He had begged and pleaded with the Association of Teachers in this city for days, and finally they had relented. Li was to be made Headmaster of the brand new building, despite his young age. He had promised not to disappoint, and he had no intentions of doing so. His students would be the greatest in the entire county!
After only a few minutes of such thoughts, he turned the corner into the small parking lot of the school, situated on the ground level of the school. He carefully locked his car and entered the main portal into his new institution.
Viewed from inside, the building was much smaller than it looked. The cafeteria and commons were located on the ground floor. A spiral staircase and elevator in the gave access to the six classrooms on the second floor, the four classrooms and teacher's lounge on the third, and the curiously small fourth floor, where storage and a few closets could be found.
A little surprised but not disappointed at all, Li sat down at his desk on the first floor and opened a large binder. From within he drew out a schedule and the roster of his students. He took his time to pore over the documents, as he had arrived early for this purpose.

It wasn't long before he noticed a week marked in red on his calendar. THIS week. Stunned, he stared at the bold mark on his planner. That was this week!? Why oh why...
He had messed up. His first mistake. He had accepted the position of Headmaster eagerly, without realizing he was going to be busy the very first week of school. Sighing, he reflected on the venture. Not all was lost. He simply had to make up for his absence with more of a presence later. Surely the students could handle themselves for a week. After all, this WAS a high school.
Li wasn't aware of just what was about to happen.

Chuck woke up excited. New day, new school, new people to impress. She dressed carefully, trying on a few different combinations before settling on the outfit for the day. Looking in the mirror, she smiled and tousled her dark curly hair.
"Here's lookin' at you, kid." She blew a kiss at her reflection, then walked downstairs.
Her mother was nowhere in sight, most likely trying to grab a few more minutes of sleep. The twins were already eating breakfast. To be more specific, Ethan was eating Evan's breakfast, while Evan was wearing most of Ethan's. She rolled her eyes.
"See you, underlings." She waved to her brothers, grabbing an apple from the fridge and making her way out the door to her car.
The school itself was a beautiful building. Chuck felt rather important that she was going to be attending an institution like this one. Her heels clicked pleasantly on the tile floor. A few students had already begun to gather in various places around the commons. She didn't recognize anyone yet, but that was all right. Like they had back at her old school, these people would come to admire her as well. They always did. She smiled smugly to herself.
She walked past the commons, wandering the still-empty halls. Finally, she found what she was looking for: the Fine Arts wing. And there it was, the first door on the left. The choir room was magnificent. A gleaming piano in the center of the room, with risers against the back wall. No plaques or trophies laying around... yet. Chuck knew she would help see to that being changed. Humming to herself, she picked out a melody on the piano. The beginning to her favorite musical. She could almost hear the first scene.
Lot 666, then... A chandelier in pieces. Some of you may recall the strange affair of the Phantom of the Opera, a mystery never fully explained. We are told that this is the very chandelier which figures in the famous disaster. Our workshops have repaired it, and wired parts of it with the new 'electric light'. Perhaps we can frighten away the ghost of so many years ago with a little illumination...
((Woah... long post is looooong... Yes, I did that last bit from memory. I'm such a nerd. Hope you like my diva, and I will more than welcome constructive criticism. She seems a bit sue-ish, to me, but I tried to make it so she's really obnoxious... Be brutally honest, I'm basing it off a girl I went to school with, not me, so insulting my character won't do any damage at all!))

"Ed! Get up, Ed! You can't be late on the first day!" It was Aunt Simone's high-pitched voice coming from the hallway.
"Oh man..." Whined Edwin as he slowly got up and looked around. "School's full of brutes and dense people. It's no place for an artist, a lover, a looker such as myself."
"I know, my little Ed's special. But remember the last private tutor we got you? You called him unprofessional, ugly, and inferior, amongst other worse things. You brought this to yourself, Ed. But I know you're strong. You'll bring finesse and class to that rat nest."
"It's not Ed, it's Edwin. Stop calling me Ed, it's a pauper's name!" He replied, but couldn't help smiling a bit. Maybe Aunt Simone was right, he thought as he finished dressing. Choosing what to wear didn't took him much thinking; he had everything ready from the night before.
"...but I still don't feel like being bothered by simpletons."
It took him twenty minutes to comb his long and gorgeous hair, and another twenty to have breakfast with knife and fork (and lots of etiquette). When he left his place, smiled goodbye to his aunt, since only peasants wave their arms around in a silly manner in public.
The school was unimpressive for him. He expected a huge, cathedral-like building with old paintings and sculptures ornamenting the walls.
"Right... simpleton school." This was his epiphany. No violins for him to play, no place for him to read, hear or recite beautiful poems. No... wait a minute, was
that
the library? That huge room, with mazes one could get lost on, full of all kinds of tomes? Was
that
the classics section, that huge shelf with more books than stars in the sky? Was
that
the arts section?
"Maybe this won't be so bad after all... I know 'tis but an illusion, I know they're still brutes and simpletons... but I must say, I think I might enjoy parts of this."
Edwin spoke to himself often, mostly because he loved the sound of his own voice...

A brush glided through red hair. Ahh, fluffy again. "Kelly! You got to go now!" shouted Fern*, her less redheaded sister. The house was an epitome of estrogen wrapped up in estrogen. One mother and three older sisters lived there, not to mention Aunt Shamrock* and Sally were there that morning.
Kelly blew a kiss to Sally as she walked out of the door.
Kelly Green, better known as Crayola, walked on her way to the school. Her head turned to a blindingly white sedan. She quickly turned away and closed her eyes for a minute or so. No use, she lost some of her sight just by
looking
at it. There was one thing she knew to be true: Whoever owned that car was a douche.
Crayola learned how to deal with people back at her old school. In fact, she memorized a list.
First; Own the name Crayola so nobody can call her a color. Crayola thought her nickname was awesome by then.
Second; Walk in like you own the place. Radiate confidence, or other people see a target.
Third; If and when people ask why/if she doesn't/does have a boyfriend, show them a picture of Sally. Those situations were so common back at Grey Cliff Mountains**, it wasn't funny. It was like everybody was obsessed with male sex organs, not that Crayola wasn't perverted herself.
Fourth; Stay away from the plastics, but if one approached? There was no mention in the rules about
that
.
Crayola scratched at her collar. In the distance stood the doors to that new institution. She finally started to get her sight back, by the look of it. Outside, so normal, but.. Whoa. Inside? She felt like flying. Crayola slid to the library. "Oh, sweet literature, my eternal love!" she cried. She scanned the aisles to find a book printed in French. She wandered the library reading it.
(*A Crayola color.
**Mixture of two schools around here, named White Cliffs and Black Mountain. Thinking of a name fast.)

Finally, Chuck got bored of picking out arias on the piano, since no one was around to listen to her and fawn over her singing abilities. She sighed, getting up and wandering out into the halls.
She decided to look in the library. What she was going to get from there, she had no idea. Some classic novel, maybe, so that people would think of her as cultured. She passed the obligatory shelves filled with pre-teen angst and vampires, making a face. The trash some people read. Selecting 'Crime And Punishment' from its shelf, she held it casually so that the title faced outwards. It was then that she noticed another girl wandering between the shelves. She seemed to be immersed in whatever it was she was reading. Chuck moved on, wandering the stacks for more inspiration. Shakespeare? She liked Shakespeare. 'Much Ado About Nothing' was added to the stack in her arms. She walked through more shelves, until she rounded a corner and stopped dead.
A young man was musing at the classics shelf she had just left. From what she could tell, he was quite handsome.
My kind of guy... I always have preferred blondes...
She thought to herself. Best pretend to be uninterested. She walked past him, keeping her eyes forward and resisting the urge to look to see his reaction.

Edwin didn't even notice her; he was too lost in the book he was looking at. Not reading; looking at. In fact, he wasn't even looking at the book per se - his eyes were closed for some reason.
However, as she passed by him, he started muttering something.
"Thou think'st 'tis much that this contentious storm
Invades us to the skin: so 'tis to thee;
But where the greater malady is fix'd,
The lesser is scarce felt. Thou'ldst shun a bear;
But if thy flight lay toward the... aging? Oh, it's been too long."
Edwin had just realized that no, he didn't know that scene by heart. He opened his eyes and glanced at the book.
"Raging. Yes, raging. How precise of the Bard, how harmonious, how..." Suddenly he froze. He turned around, and saw a girl. Suffice to say, he was surprised. But after that first scare, he looked at her a tad better.
Hmm, blue eyes and black hair. Unusual, but not displeasing. She wasn't ugly at all, no.
After Edwin noticed he was wearing a smile on his face, he immediately closed the book and placed it back on its shelf. After all, he knew that one
almost
by heart - why read it again? That done, he turned to Chuck.
"...yes?"

"That was King Lear, wasn't it?" Chuck asked blithely. "I prefer Othello, myself, when it comes to tragedy." She paused mid-step and turned to look at him.
"I was surprised to find such an extensive collection of classics here." She added. "It's impressive, for such a new school." The ornate clock on the wall caught her eye, and she checked her watch. Goodness, was it time for class already?
"Ah... I should get going." She muttered. "Well, enjoy your reading." She turned and walked away. She checked out her books, smiling sweetly at the elderly librarian, before rummaging in her bag to find her schedule.
European history for first hour. My kind of schedule.
She thought to herself.
Now, which way is it...?

"What was
that
all about? Was my dashing, effeminate, epicene beauty too much for her to take? I don't blame her. I would be like that too, if I was her.", said Edwin to himself. Still, it was good to know someone else had the same literary tastes as he did. Edwin couldn't help wondering if she played a musical instrument too, was an actor like him, or liked poetry.
"Oh Edwin LeBlanc, yet again, you drift off."
He checked his watch (Rolex, insanely expensive, done exclusively for him and with ELB engraved on the side).
"Oh, it's time... for class. I'll just skip
this
one..." He mumbled, grabbed a random book from the Classics shelf, and sat somewhere reading it.

Crayola looked up at the clock. Class time. Well, wouldn't it be fun to play hooky on the first day? Especially since the first hour for her was
Gym
. She wandered off to the classics section to find the book she wanted to look at had been taken by another. "Huh. Well." She picked out something else instead.
Crayola turned around to see someone reading. "Playing hooky, are we?" The effeminate boy caught her eye immediately. "Wow.
She
's hot," she thought out loud. "I'm sure Sal w-- Hey, wait a minute. That was the book I missed out on." She sat down across from him, opened her eyes wide, then covered her mouth.
With a small chuckle, she said, "Good thing I'm not the
only
gay person in this school. You looked like a girl from a distance." With that remark having been made, she got up from the seat and started examining the ends of the bookcases nearby.

This was enough to annoy Edwin. In fact, he wasn't just annoyed, he was enraged.
He enjoyed looking like a girl, he was proud of his beauty, he didn't mind being mistaken for gay. But the way that was said... the
tone
! The
chuckle
! Edwin was being mocked... and nothing angered him more than being mocked.
Furious, all he could do was ignore the... thing... that had made the comment, and resume his reading. He bit his lower lip as he stared at one of the words, "vexed", too ticked off to actually read the rest of the page. Was even fate itself mocking him?

Unaware of Edwin's... fate, Headmaster Li cursed his own, or would have, if such profanities were befitting an administrator. His mother had called right as he arrived for the conference, announcing that Anita had called for him. Heaving an exasperated sigh, Li had picked up his phone. 127 missed calls...
He'd croaked.
127!?
She must be furious. Or a mouse was in the house, or she needed help picking out what to wear while he was away. He had dialed her back, expecting something mundane.
And that was how
the
Headmaster Evan Li, award-winning, top-of-his-class student from the University, had been called back to his house, where strange, smelly men in dirty, crumpled uniforms were packing up his furniture and putting it in a truck. He had frantically called the bank, from which he had learned he was penniless. Anita had somehow spent all of his hard-earned money. Worse, she had done it on his Association of Teacher's credit card. The Association now had ownership of his furniture. And part of his house. But not his Cresta. He had fought the dirty men tooth and nail to keep it. So now, as he walked into his school, he needed no nonsense. He was going to get a raise. And then some. His students would be the best. He would be the best. In the district... in the world!
Such thoughts filled his head as he walked into the adjunct building that housed his office... and the library. He walked past the glass doors of the latter building with a stride hastened by anger. The flash of red hair was what grabbed his attention. Students!? In the library!? This was first block. This was unacceptable. He pushed open the doors in a rage, surveying the library and taking in the two... delinquents.

Lost in his own frustration, Edwin did not even notice the headmaster coming in, and that was quite an accomplishment - the man made more noise opening that door than Edwin ever did while he was practicing his violin skills. Then again, maybe not.
When he did glance at the man, he was very, very startled. Then, he was scared. But somehow he did manage to put his fake arrogant smile in his face mere milliseconds after almost having an heart attack - so quickly about anyone would think that gasp was but an illusion.
Now, that man wasn't beautiful at all. He was... weird, to say the least.
"Can I help you, Mister?" He asked the obviously enraged stranger before him and Crayola. "What must I interrupt my readings for?"

About the girl-boy-thing Crayola met earlier, she realized how her
nervous laughter
could have been seen as ridicule and the perturbed look on his face. "Say, um," she said. "What do you say I help you with your homework? Sound good? I mean, I already know everything they teach this year since I learned it last summer, so..." But she said her words so softly, nobody but her could hear her talk.
And then the door opened louder than a foghorn's blow. Did the pretty boy just gasp? Nah, couldn't have been him. She dropped the book. Was that the douche that owned the blinding-white Cresta before her? She sighed as if she were in a futile situation with a big grin from ear to ear. That was just how much school discipline mattered to her.
Sorry, but I just don't feel like
humiliating
myself in Gym class,
she thought.

"What - students? Interrupting? I'm - I'm the Headmaster!" Li sputtered.
He looked from one face to the next, trying not to grow too angry at the lopsided smile the redheaded girl presented. She was smiling. The Headmaster could not retain his regal fury.
"YOU TWO! WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING? THIS IS MY SCHOOL, YOU DEGENERATE CHILDREN! IN MY OFFICE! NOW!!"
(sorry. caps. it's just how he is.)
