The War For Humanity

(A point comes when a Seraph's excitement reaches dangerous levels. When that happens, he steps up and steals another person's RP idea. That person is not only free to reclaim this forum as her own, but also to discard any plot points I introduce and call me names. With that said...)

Such a beautiful night. Quiet, warm... Above, the moon watched over the clear sky, amongst myriads of tiny stars. Summertime, obviously - no other season can provide such a calm, wonderful night.

The city was big, complex, a true concrete maze. One not deserving of such a night. He could see them down there... so many. Each one of them with their worries, dreams, plans. Some walked quickly, in a hurry to get somewhere. Others seemed to be merely out for a stroll. A woman in a dress, driving to her destination - probably a party, or a social event. A homeless man in a dark alley, sleeping after spending the day begging. Alms, alms for the poor... The one watching knew that sentence all too well. The one watching had been around for ages, and he wherever he was, he always hear either that, or a variation of that sentence. Alms, alms for the poor...

A soft wind made the clothes of the one watching wave softly for a second.

The one watching was standing in the rooftop of one of the tallest buildings around. Lots of things were visible from there. It had been a calm night - the one watching hadn't seen any violence yet. But that just meant said violence was probably taking place somewhere else in the city. Not even the keenest eagle can see - or hear - everything.

A scream, partially concealed by the noise of the cars on the street. No one even stopped to wonder where that had come from. No one cared, except the one watching.

"It was too calm..."

Down there, a woman happened to notice the figure standing on the rooftop. Unsure of what she was seeing, she blinked twice - and when she looked again, the figure was no longer there.

The scream the one watching had heard came from an alley not too far from the building that had served as his perch.  A young woman stood in the middle of the alley, staring at the man not too far in front of her while trying to ignore the fresh cut in her upper arm.

"I know you got cash, Parker."  The man growled, pointing his knife at her.  "Give it here."  The woman shook her head, tightening her grip around the length of lead pipe she held like a baseball bat.

"Nuh-uh, Bryce."  She said, shaking her head stubbornly.  "I don't have enough to spare.  Just tryin' to make ends meet an' all..."  She exhaled quickly, blowing a few strands of her hair out of her eyes.  "Come any closer and I swear I'll kick your ass."

The man laughed.
"You're bleeding, sugar."  He said.  "You got no chance.  Be a good girl and hand over the wallet so my buddies and I can get something to eat, all right?"

"Hell no!"  The woman snapped.  "You're just gonna spend it on booze and hookers!  I know you, I know how you work.  Just leave me alone!  Go mug someone else!"  She began to back slowly down the alley.  Bryce leaned casually against the wall.

"Where you gonna go, Parker?"  He asked.  "There's no way out 'cept through me."  The woman looked back, muttering expletives as she saw the brick wall behind her.  The sound of running footsteps made her turn around.  Bryce had broken into a run, and was coming towards her with his knife.  He was stopped, however, by a blow from the lead pipe that hit him square in the ribs.  He stumbled, falling in a heap at her feet.  He gasped for breath, uttering low moans of pain.  The woman backed away from him, then tried to walk around him.  However, he reached out and grabbed her ankle, causing her to fall as well.  She hit the ground hard, the pipe falling out of her hands and rolling out of her reach.  Bryce loomed over her, picking up his knife.  He clutched at his side, and still gasped as if the wind had been knocked out of him.
"I'm...  I'm gonna kill you, you stupid bitch..."  He growled.

Looking down at what was going on, the one watching had had enough with merely witnessing the events. He jumped down, landing between the two humans.

Kayin. Former angel. Now - looked upon with contempt by both angels and daemons. Wearing all black, that scythe he was holding made him look way bigger and stronger - as he held the heavy weapon as if it was weightless - than he actually was.

"She won't die today." He said, facing the man. The fallen angel spread his charred-looking bony wings, taking a step towards Bryce. "But you just might."

This kind of interference was the last thing the mugger was expecting. Sadly for him, he was intoxicated - and instead of running for his life, he decided he wouldn't let that cosplayer of sorts make him look bad.

"And you. This is none of your business." Bryce muttered. "Get off my way."

No answer from Kayin. Bryce growled. Who did that guy think he was, mocking him like that. So he charged at him. But that was what the fallen one was expecting.

The scythe was dropped. As Bryce tried stab the intruder right in the heart, his hand was grabbed - and the powerful grip forced him to drop the knife. Kayin pulled him towards himself. Knee to the chest, and Bryce fell.

"You could at least put up a fight." Said Kayin, as he picked up his scythe again, using it to make a deep cut in the mugger's upper arm.

"Eye for an eye. Consider yourself lucky it's not 'return sevenfold'."

He remained motionless as he watched Bryce slowly getting up, muttering a few curses, and then running as fast as his battered body allowed, while at the same time hopelessly trying to stop the blood flow from his wound.

Bonnie watched, wide-eyed, with a mix of horror and amazement as the unknown... angel?... drove Bryce away.  While the two had been fighting, she had snuck over and retrieved her pipe.  She slumped against the wall, holding the pipe out in front of her.

The angel turned.  She felt her heart begin to race.  He was between her and the exit.
"S-stay back..."  She stammered.  "I'm warning you..."  She brandished the pipe.  "I'll smack you into next week..."

The angel did not move.

"Look, I don't want trouble, okay?"  She tried again.  "Just...  Just let me go..."  She wanted him to step aside, to disappear into the shadows, SOMETHING. But that was unlikely to happen.  He just... stood there.  The blackened bone that made up his wings unnerved her.  She'd seen angels before, sure...  But never like this one.

"Listen, you."  She tried to make her voice firm.  The loss of blood from the cut on her arm was making her shake.  "You saved the day, or whatever.  Good for you.  Now, if you don't mind, I'd like to get going..."

Typical human. He had saved her life, and that was how she thanked him. At least she wasn't running away, or even worse, attacking him - something that had become very common lately, since it started.

"No one's keeping you." In fact, as far as the fallen one was concerned, the human should probably get going, find someone who could bandage her arm. She was losing quite a bit of blood.

He? He knew nothing of medicine. Some angels could heal the wounded... but a fallen one loses all powers. Even flight was no longer possible for Kayin. Besides... he had never been one of the angels with healing abilities.

There was only one thing he could do. Kayin ripped off a big piece of his right sleeve, and threw it at the human's feet, and looked at her. His look said something along the lines of 'what are you waiting for? Fix yourself'.

"They love the smell of fresh human blood."

Bonnie eyed him warily, shrinking back at the sound of his voice.  He wasn't going to attack her...  He was helping her...

She grabbed the bit of fabric, then shrugged her right arm out of her jacket.  She winced as she saw the wound.  It hurt like hell, and looked even worse.
Well, it's not gonna wrap itself.  She groaned.  There wasn't much fabric, and she swore under her breath as she pulled the makeshift bandage tight.  Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed he was still standing there.

"Thanks, I guess."  She said.  Her voice was muffled, as she was holding one corner of the fabric in her teeth to try and tie a knot.  "I'll... be okay.  You don't need to stick around.  People around here don't take kindly to angels."  She staggered to her feet, leaning against the wall.  She needed to get to a hospital.  There was one a few blocks away... She could make it... right?

Kayin was just about to leave... but something made him think twice. The girl, her wound was deeper than he had thought. Or maybe she just had a low pain threshold. Either way, she wasn't looking so well. Kayin only noticed how much pain she was in when he saw her lean against the wall.

That's when he decided he wasn't just a protector of humans during battle.

"...stand up for my help. I'll take you to a hospital."

He couldn't leave her there like that. She would never make it without help.

Bonnie looked at him, confused.  Still, she stepped toward him, putting an arm tentatively around his shoulder.  She felt him put an arm around her waist, half-supporting her.
"Thanks..."  She said again.  She didn't know why he wanted to help her, but she didn't care.  He WAS helping her.  That was all she needed.  They started walking out of the alleyway.
"My name's Bonnie."  She said.  Might as well be polite.  "Never met an angel before...  Seen a few, but... never this close."

((derp spis...  But I wanted to move the story along, so there.))

The walk to the hospital was short and uneventful - and silent also, as Kayin never spoke again. He left the nameless human outside, by the hospital door... it was time for them to do their job.

The incident was trivial... but saying he did it to never think of it again would be a lie.

A few days passed. How many, he wasn't sure. Yet again he was outside, watching the city that was his home. Yet again he was standing in the tallest rooftop, alert. Humans killing humans. Angels killing humans. Daemons doing God-knows-what to humans.

"Can't get any more forsaken than that, huh?" He asked himself.

Such acts against humans, no matter where they were coming from, no longer would remain unpunished.

A small, childlike creature wandered the streets, hands in his pockets and his face set in a scowl. He hated the night. Specifically, the things that lurked in the darkness. He may of been against his own kind, but that didn't stop those things from jumping to conclusions. And of course they'd go after the small, nonthreatening angel. Well, former angel. He had lost his halo a long time ago, long before all this talk of the apocalypse. And speaking of the reason for his fall from grace...

"Seras! There you are!" The small angel cringed at the voice and sudden tackle-hug. His 'attacker' was much taller than Seras, making escape very difficult. "I wish you wouldn't disappear on me like that. It's almost as if you don't like me."

"Let go, Allestair! I'm serious!" Seras struggled against the other, to no avail.

"Now why would I do that?" Allestair chuckled, "You might just up and abandon me again."

"That's exactly what I plan to do! Now let go before I bite you!" Seras felt the arms restraining him let go and took a couple steps away from his assailant. He turned around and kicked the other in the shin.

"Ow!" Allestair laughed again, "I don't think I deserved that!"

"Keep it up and the next one will be aimed higher." Seras huffed and crossed his arms. His eyes wandered for a second before fixing on a spot behind Allestair. He scowled. "We're being watched."

What goes on down there? They are not normal... nothing is nowadays...

Kayin watched from above, yet again. He had just happened to stumble upon that tall person - the one who was currently conversing with the other, shorter man. And he had followed. It was a slow night... like the calm before the storm.

He could almost feel the tension in the air. Yes... soon they would come, swarming. It was his one fear.

And then, the short one had said the words he feared. "We are being watched". Kayin prepared to run... but no. They were not looking at him. They were looking at... something else. But from where he was, the fallen angel could not discern anything unusual. Then he noticed it. It was a small blue object on the ground... he couldn't see what, though. Then...

Then a laugh - of pure hysteria. The mysterious object disappeared... Kayin blinked, and mere inches away from his face, he saw a couple of blue eyes staring at him. The only strange thing about that? The owner of those eyes was upside down, yet his hair didn't seem to be affected by gravity.

"I'm afraid your friends are after you, fallen one.", the man in blue said. "I'm afraid your friends are after you.", he repeated.

A blue rose was shown to a dumbfounded Kayin, then the person tossed it over his own shoulder. Strangely, it obeyed the laws of gravity... falling right in front of the two strangers on the street. Kayin blinked again... and then another disembodied giggle, and the man in blue was no longer there. Then he looked down, to find two strangers looking at him.

Probably thinking he had been the one to toss the blue rose at them.
