St. Saethryth's Academy for the Gifted
« on: January 30, 2011, 10:20:39 AM »
The large stone building had it's lights on like most of the other establishments in the sleepless city, though the inhabitants of the school were up tonight for an entirely different reason than the populace of downtown Chicago.
St. Saethryth's Academy had been on North State street for as long as anyone could remember; a privately funded and mysteriously prestigious institute that rarely opened its doors to the outside world.
But the chaos of the city often distracted unwanted curiosity from the place, allowing the faculty and students to continue their unusual practices without much external interference.
Within the cool corridors of the Academy, almost everything was silent: only the scuffling footsteps of Mr. Smith, the caretaker, could be heard echoing throughout the halls as he checked to make sure no students were lagging behind.
The start of the school year would officially commence the next morning at seven fourty-three according to the information that the city's Board of Education had received, but in actuality, the students would begin their new term at midnight- right after the dean's speech.
With only two exceptions, every individual, both faculty and students, had settled themselves in the East Wing Auditorium; a quiet roar of conversation forming as they waited to be addressed.
Disorganised silence fell upon the crowd, with scattered murmurs and loud whispers of 'shhhh!' as their eyes fell upon the lone figure standing at the podium.
With stark white hair and a skin tone that was barely darker, Tatiana Flenn's choice of inky-black attire only made her appearance more startling.
"Good evening," her richly dark voice seemed to fill the space before her, "and welcome to another year at the Academy." Her ghostly lips formed a small smile before she continued, "For the new faces we have among us: we extend our guidance and hospitality to each and every one of you.
"Now, I understand that not all of us are nocturnal, so I will try to make this brief," the dean glanced down at the paper in front of her, "Freshman will be woken up tomorrow morning at ten-oh-three by their aids for classification and to review their designated schedules. All counselors shall be active and on duty.
"Also, anyone who wishes to change or advance classes must report to the North Tower for assessment by six o'clock tomorrow evening.
"The Lower Hall is currently under construction and will not be entered by students for any sort of reason and the cafeteria will be open in twenty minutes.
"Aids will now show their groups to their dormitories and everyone else needs to visit their mentor if they have not yet received their class itinerary." And with that, the headmistress was gone.
Loud conversation broke out again and students restlessly stayed in their seats to allow the newcomers to exit the auditorium first.

Edwin was new. He was there by his own free will - St. Saethrith's Academy was not only prestigious. It was prestigious enough for the young LeBlanc.

With interest, he had quietly listened to the headmistress's speech, and was favorably impressed. She was exactly what he expected the headmistress of an academy for the gifted to be. Not a flaw in sight, with the possible exception of the simplicity of her speech. Then again, one must sometimes speak like a lowlife to be understood by one.

Edwin had hope. Hope that he would find, there, a world akin to his. A place of art, culture, and beauty.

For art and culture, that hope still stood strong. But sadly, from what he had seen, not a person in the Auditorium was as beautiful as him... then again, he had not looked around that much. There would be time to do that. Lots and lots of time.

What must be will be. In here, I expect to be able to truly find the true beauty within my powers...

With these musings and other similar ones, the young man walked out the room, amongst dozens of others. So lost in those musings, he was utterly unaware of anyone else's presence... or what he was supposed to do for that matter.

Haruka stood in the middle of the hall, she was in the first year senior school but she had attended st-saethryth's since she was six years old. Being an only child of the head of one of the most promenent corperations in the world and a  famouse actress, people often assumed that she was very spoilet and much loved by her perfect pearnts. Much the oposite  is true infact. She has been ignored by her parents since she was born and showed that she wasnt the perfect child that they were hoping for, they couldent wait to drop her in this school. Haruka had barely seen her parents since she stopped going home in holidays at the age of nine.

"hey Haruka, cant stand there forever, we got to go!" That was her best firend Johnny. Well his real name was Chuulkanun Paumpusete, but he was yet to meet a person who could say it right so he just wants people to call him Johnny.

Phil looked very much like a lost lamb in the hall. In the 18 years he was alive, this was the first time he attended an assembly, or sitting with the masses. He looked around with confusion but once Tatiana started to speak he paid close attention to the woman who had brought her to this academy.

Once the speech was over, he and the other students filtered out of the hall. He felt excited being around such a large group of people, though he starts to get nervous if a girl comes too close to him. He decided it was best if he first went to find his dorm room and went in search of his aid. However, once his stomach started to complain about being empty he decided to do so AFTER getting a meal to satisfy his stomach.

Phil moved along in the sea of students, wondering how well the food was made.

Alma yawned and stretched as she came out of the auditorium. She was tired, back home she would have been asleep by now. Heck everyone would have been by now, she thought looking around at the other freshmen. The seemingly random thought stopped her in her tracks. It brought home just how different her life would now be, away from her family and the commune, away from being homeschooled with her siblings......
She felt tears begin to slip out of the corners of her eyes. It was all so new to her, she had never been to a "normal" school and now here she was acouple states away from home at a "special" school.
She sniffed and ducked her head dashing the tears away with an overly long uniform sleeve.
'I will make it, I will succeed here' she thinks her look on the brightside determination taking over.
Without looking up Alma begins to make her way tword the stairs that will lead tword the dorms.
She promptly trips over her own feet and nocks into the back of a tallish older male student who's making his way out of the hall too.

Haruka made her way to the dinning room with Johnny stridding along in front of her. Although it wasnt classified as her power she could always sense when people were looking at her and she felt self consious. As she walked into the Dinning Hall she looked around, seeing many familiar faces from Middle and Primary (or 'Elementary' as the Americans would say) School but there were many new faces that she had never seen before. Haruka like to classify people, it was a kind of hobbie of hers. She say the common types like the tall dark sullen teenagers that are there by force and the beautiful prince and prinsesses that acted like they owned the place. There were so many diffrent clicks and groups and types of people that she wondered at the intricacy of life. Looking at the new faces she tried to spot any that she thought that would fit into her, very percuiler, group. In the corner she saw a boy almost her own age maybe older with strikingly dark spiky hair that seemingly fell aroung his face in just the right way and a girl with bright red hair also standing there. they looked nice and Haruka decided that she should at least try to make a few friend otherwise Johnny would be pissed at her for being anti-social...again.

Just as Phil was about to turn towards the cafeteria, he felt something small crash into his back, surprising him. He turns back and sees a head full of long red hair, prompting him to look further down to which he sees a cute girl a few years his junior. What caught his attention most of all about this little girl is that she had two differently colored eyes, one brown, one green.

As of his usual reflex, Phil stiffens slightly in the presence of this girl. His lack of exposure to women have left him inexperienced towards them, but Phil has read many book, usually old romance novels, about how a man should treat a woman.

"Forgive me, my lady. I should not have stopped so suddenly." He took the girl's hand into his, bowed deeply and lightly kissed her hand. "Are you all right? Is there anything I can help you with?"

"Excuse me!" Alma squeeked in alarm looking up into the older boy's face, his spiked black hair making him look even taller to her alarmed eyes, "I'm sorry; it's my fault, " she adds.
Seeing him stiffen in what she thinks is anger, Alma tries to back up a step but is halted when he bends down to take her hand.
His courtly words and old fashioned gestures cause Alma to flush scarlet. 'My lady' if her sisters had heard her called that they would be laughing soo hard.
Sisters, Home.....another wave of home sickness, causes more tears to come to her eyes.
She releases a watery chuckle, "I'm fine, its just me being clumsy and missin home," she sniffles and dabbs at her eyes with her sleeves again.
Looking up and meeting the boys gaze Alima notes,  that the Golden eyes show kindness, and her 'Sight' rejesters his aura is of calming blues and greens, telling her he has no ill intent.
"If you could point me back to the dorms, I'm dead tired" she yawns and covers her mouth "and this place is huge!" she says not relizing that he must be another freshman.

Phil looked at the read headed girl apologetically, "I'm sorry, miss, but I am also new to this school. So I am not sure where exactly it is."

The girl was showing signs of distress and in turn it was causing Phil an amount of distress as well. "However, I do have an idea of where the cafeteria is. If it is not too much trouble, would you like to join me? Maybe something sweet will make you fell better, I heard that the cookies there a very good."

The musing narcissist awoke from his... well, musings when he found himself in... the cafeteria? We, it was their fault, not having guides or anything of the kind to show the new students around. Already the academy was letting him down.

Out of curiosity, Edwin looked around. Few things got his attention. Four friends chatting happily. Two girls looking around, almost as lost as he was. A young man, around his age, hopelessly trying to act like a gentleman towards a much younger-looking girl of bright red hair. And... a few more things. He had lost interest already.

After much concideration on wheither she really needed more than one friend, and 2 arguments with Johnny, Haruka decidend to aproch the two teens.

Haruka tried and almost always failed to avoid atention but being a tall, blond asian didnt help much and she tended to be insainly clumsy, so she avoided people as much as posible. but I might a well make an effort that way Johnny will leave me alone about it for the rest of the year. But as she apoched these two she noticed something quite strange.

Alma blushed scarlet, "Oop, sorry," she tells the older boy, "You just seemed to know where you were going..." she trails off into silence.

Alma is slightly dissapointed to find out that her guide doesn't know where the dorms are, however all is forgiven at his mention of cookies, thats the magic word. Alma looks up from her shoes, she loves cookies!!

"Cookies!" Alma practicaly squeals "Even this late?" she asks grinning a dazzling smile her eyes shining. If they were good ones maybe her time here wouldn't be soo bad.

Looking around the hall and seeing the crowds starting to disperse she says "If you would be so kind I will accept please lead the way" then remembering her manners she extends forth a small hand "I'm Alma by the way."

Phil looks at the hand momentarily, then takes it and kisses it again. "A pleasure to meet you, Alma. My name is Philip, but most people just call me Phil."

As Phil pulls away from her hand, he noticed that there was a small cut on the back of her hand. "You seem to have cut yourself, Alma. Let me fix that."

Phil put his other hand over her bruise. Alma's wound grows warm and a calming sensation spreads to the rest of her body. It lasted only a second and the wound was no longer there. "There you go. Now shall we go to the cafeteria?"

Phil then presents his arm to her and waits for her response.

Alma's eyes widened in surprise at the casual healing Phil did to her hand. As well as fixing the cut his ministration seemed to ease some of her fatige.
She'd never met someone who could heal like that before before.

"How'd you do that'...  Alma started to ask but then realizing that that might be rude she limited herself to, "Thanks, Phil" as she smiled brightly.

Then takeing Phil's arm in her own, she replies "Indeed, lets go!"

As they enter the cafeteria Alma starts scanning the room looking for thin spots in the crowd where seats might be offered for newbies like Phil and herself.

Phil walked to the cafeteria with Alma by his arm. His heart thumped in nervousness but showed no other sign.

"Ah..." was all he could say when he reached the cafeteria as the entire places was filled with people. "So many people" he said delightedly, seeing so many people gather in the same place for the first time lit a small fire in his heart. Even the number of girls that roughly took up half the entire cafeteria, which would make him nervous, did not bother him.

With stars in his eyes he went around looking for a place to sit. He found two vacant seats beside a group of people. "Scuse me," he said to a girl, "but is anyone sitting her?"

The sudden approach of Phil took the girl aback before she blushed slightly with Phil's face so close to her's. "Err, no."

"Magnificent. May me and my friend sit here beside you all?"

The group looked astounded at Phil as he looked at all of them starry eyed. "You may?"

"Splendid! Please excuse me Alma." Phil said and seated Alma before joining the the queue for food with great enthusiasm.
