Isolde wandered through the streets of the market, her well-worn cloak drawn tight around her frame, as she listened intently to the conversations about her. Whispers of a nameless fear had echoed the cities and villages of Heiligdom der Engelen for many months, a power so great as to break the channel. For that purpose she travelled, for that purpose she carried on, choosing not to wallow in the grief she felt like a boulder in her stomach.
Dwelling on it now would not help her any either. Shaking her head, she let herself be immersed in the crowd, snippets of conversation reaching her easily. Most were just the usual nonsense, gushing, gossiping and market-jargon echoing in her mind. Information gathering, she had learned, was a process that required both stealth and patience. She had learned little from most of the information she had gleaned as it had be given to her with prevaricating intentions. However, with every untruth there was a small fraction of truth. That was how she found herself here, in a city she could not remember the name of, where there were more people than she had ever seen in her life. She was still many, many miles from Iceglass Mountain, but closer still to the truth.
Before she continued any further, Isolde needed someone on her side. More than anything. Recent experiences and a few bruises and cuts had taught her that. But finding one who opposed the angels was always difficult. Not for lack of humans, demons or other creatures who wanted to see the angels fall, but openly showing your allegiance to freedom... that was another matter. The views of angels on those who did not realise their perfection was extremely sanguinary. It was no wonder then, that she was finding it hard, this journey.
She could not give up, she would not. Iceglass Mountain awaited her, she wanted to bring those 'supreme beings' down from their thrones in their celestial kingdom. They did not deserve to determine life and death. They did not deserve pity. They did not deserve
freedom.

If you looked hard enough, amongst the crowds, you would find something that was not a man nor a beast, not an angel nor a demon. You would find a somewhat short person, body covered in brown fur and green clothes, face - or rather, muzzle - of a dog. You would see that that person was sitting on the ground between two market stands, an open backpack on his right, a white spear next to it. You would see that that person was also very happily eating some beef jerky, while sometimes drinking from a small brown canteen. Summarized, you would see a Kobold.
Ranran was happy. Sure, he was almost out of money, but still, he had food, drink, the temperature was just right, and the people there hadn't kicked him out yet for scaring the little children or something of the kind.
He was also oblivious, for he had no idea what was going on with Angels and Demons and that stuff. For him, Heiligdom der Engelen was a temporary stop, before he would have fun somewhere else.

It wasn't often that Arras wound up in a favorable situation from the get-go. On the contrary, he typically found himself dropped in the middle of a war zone - arrows over head, spears and swords all around. Then there were the vast wastelands, the empty wildernesses that he'd traverse for days only to leave the realm a week after reaching civilization. Other times, he'd make friends in the wrong camp, waking up one morning to discover that his new allies were actually burning and pillaging the countryside.
This, fortunately, was not one of those times.
The portal had dropped him near a thriving marketplace. Bustle moved all around him, and he thanked his lucky stars that it hadn't opened directly above the market. Arran was not a fan of undue attention. The scents of exotic fruits, the sweaty stink of the mass of people, the metallic tang of blacksmiths and forgers, all of this he began to take in as he entered into a brave new world.
As he moved through the crowds as unobtrusively as he could, he spotted something of an anomaly. A little brown creature was huddled between two stalls. He was just about to make his way over to it, speak to it, when he noticed a Demon.
Arran wasn't a stranger to demons in general. Each and every time he saw one, they were of a different variety. He'd fought with some, discussed philosophy with others, and tried to learn new magic with others. All told, though, he never knew what to expect.
Which is why he recoiled a little bit, bumping into Isolde as he moved through the expansive street. He mumbled his apologies, and made his way to Ranran. He looked, sat down next to him, and started talking.
"Hey there. What're you doing 'round here? You don't seem to quite fit in here."
