To Sleep, Perchance to Dream
« on: December 25, 2010, 01:42:21 AM »
There was, once a long time ago, a dream about a strange land. The dream desired to grow, and for that purpose began to gathe people unto itself, but that twisted it and corrupted it's inhabitants.

The dreamers changed, and in turn they created a crazy and twisted world. The madness subsided eventually, and the dreamers reconciled with the land... but fragments of that mad power remained. The madness of violence, of wild imagination, of rule and of love being the most prominent and dangerous examples.

A man has made it his mission to prevent those fragments from falling into the wrong hands, he himself is but a dream without dreamer; both grew distant and that severed his ties with the Earth, his imagination expanded and he was lost in himself. He has his hopes in a future he'd cast with his own hands, his own strangeness being the greatest tool for this purpose; as it dwarfed the madness of the Spade, as it's burden was considerably lesser than the weight of such a duty. The Diamond is compatible with him as well, meaning that he wasn't changed much by it's acquisition.

Only a pair of fools would desire the Heart, as it is not a power itself but nonetheless every bit as dangerous as the Spade, as the madness it causes is far greater.

The Queen of Hearts, already a powerful individual, desired for the Club, which added to her already-commanding presence would make anyone bend to her will... even the other queens. There is no-one to take the possition of King of Hearts, one of the few that the Queen's ability doesn't work on, and the only one that could stop it completelly.

And the Queen is not the only one going after this power.

Welcome to a land were wishes come true with just a thought, where there are roads made of chocolate and things aren't what they seem.

People that dream do so by entering these strange worlds, for now, let us focus on the Country of Wonders. When people dream, their imagination and memories take form and wander about. Myths and legends mingle with people and modern characters, as well as objects with their characteristics -a sword that grants herculean strength anyone?

There are different types of dreaming selves.

First, the regular one, this is merely the same person as the Dreamer in a role or situation he or she wants, like being a princess or even a specific hero. His or her behaviour and way of thinking are those of the Dreamer.

Then, there's the characters, these are memories of a person different to oneself or characters thought up by the Dreamer. These ones behave and do things according to what the Dreamer thinks/remembers about them, and even then only at the moment of origin. You can (although it's not recommended) several dreams of the same character, each behaving differently due to varied interpretations, even if originated by the same person (as long as that person is aware of several interpretations of that character).

Then, phantoms, mere shells of a character created because the memory wasn't strong enough, pictured vividly enough, or the Dreamer has no information about the character. They have virtually no feelings, but they can pretend to the extend that the behaviour they have imprinted onto them. Over time and depending on the trials they oversome, they might be able to develop a personality of their own (even if it might be a little apart from their original imprinted one).

There are times when a Dreamer changes psychologically, or loses interest in what sparked a dream, or even die. This leaves the dream completelly free from the wishes of the Dreamer, whoever the feeling is quite intense, and they might go crazy, at least a little.

The times are modern, Dreamers don't have idea of what is going on inside the dreams, but that doesn't mean that they are completelly free from consecuences -should anything strange happen- in the waking world. Once they dream the same thing as they did last night, their dreamself awakens again and they remember what happened before.
